Stoney Creek Falls Cairns-where is that?
Stoney Creek can be reached via a short, 20-minute drive from Cairns CBD via the Western Arterial Road. You have to turn onto the Stoney Creek Road (Kamräna) that leads through the rainforest to the parking lot.
From here the path on the right side is clearly visible and immediately leads to a concrete pedestrian bridge, where you can go to the nearby swimming hole or continue on the Stoney Creek hiking trail to the Old Weir Falls.
Did you know that the Stoney Creek parking lot is the starting point for the viewing path Glacier Rock and is only 15 minutes' drive away from the Fairy Falls and the Crystal Cascades?

Stoney Creek waterfall and swimming hole
Everyone knows that it can get hot in Cairns! It is therefore not difficult to understand why Stoney Creek has become such a local favorite.
Stoney Creek swimming hole
The great thing about Stoney Creek Falls Cairns is that there is a deep swimming hole from the parking lot.
To get here, cross the concrete pedestrian bridge and take the left path immediately afterwards. Alternatively, you can also cross under the bridge and follow the shallow stream for about 3 minutes to the water point.

The swimming hole is wide and at the lowest point about 2 meters deep.
Although this is a great place for swimming and cooling, it can get very crowded in summer, especially on weekends. Consider an early visit or on weekdays to avoid the crowds.

The Stoney Creek hiking trail to the Old Weir Falls
When the swimming hole is overcrowded or you prefer a short hike to a larger, more remote waterfall, take the hiking trail to the Old Weir Falls. You can reach this by taking the straight away from the fork of the pedestrian bridge, which leads a wide, unpaved path.

This path is the Stoney Creek Walking Track, which reaches the Old Weir Fall after about 20 minutes. This path follows the stream up the side of a rounded hill and ends directly above the waterfall.
There is a large fallen tree that rests directly above the waterfall and frames it nicely. The Old Weir waterfall itself falls about 8 meters above a rock wall down on a sand-lined shore.

Although the water is not so deep here, it is still a great place to cool off and enjoy the calm. There is also a deeper swimming hole directly over Old Weir and a few other places that are scattered along the route.
