Lower Saxony urgently needs foreign skilled workers in the hospitality industry!

There is an increasing need for foreign workers in the Lower Saxony hospitality industry. This group plays a central role, especially in the catering and hotel industries, where their share is significantly higher compared to other economic sectors. How NDR reports, a survey among restaurateurs in Lower Saxony shows that the demand for skilled workers, especially chefs, varies regionally. Recruitment is strategically important and is particularly successful in areas with already established foreign communities.

While demand on the coasts and islands is particularly high in high season, there is a need for employees all year round in Hanover. Employers in the Harz region, on the other hand, are struggling to retain their foreign employees as many of them migrate to larger cities.

Regional differences in recruitment

The Lüneburg Heath has specific challenges when recruiting foreign skilled workers, which are often exacerbated by inadequate childcare options. This contrasts with the positive aspects of the free movement of workers within the EU, which enables the smooth recruitment of skilled workers from European countries. For non-EU citizens, however, the procedures for recognizing qualifications and issuing visas are often associated with difficulties and delays.

The situation is so tense that some companies were unable to open at the start of the season because the necessary employees were missing. What is impressive is that around every second employee on the islands comes from abroad, mainly from countries such as Romania, Poland, Ukraine, Vietnam, Italy and Croatia. In order to improve this situation, the Lower Saxony state government is actively supporting companies in recruiting foreign workers and has even entered into a partnership with the Moroccan region of Tangier for labor migration.

Challenges in the Harz

The Harz Tourism Association is raising its voice and calling for more support from the state in order to make the Harz more attractive for holidaymakers. The booking situation in the Harz is mixed due to the bad weather, so hopes rest on a positive August.

A new chapter recently opened in a completely different area of entertainment: The 34th season of “Dancing with the Stars” will premiere on September 16th on ABC and Disney+. Cast members include Alix Earle, Robert Irwin, Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck, while hosts will include Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough Palm Beach Post reported. Interested viewers can look forward to the first episodes, which will be available on Hulu a week after they air.

The various challenges and developments in the Lower Saxony hospitality industry and the coming season of the dance show show once again how dynamic and complex the different industries currently are.
