Horror accident on the A9: Family from Hamburg in mortal danger after vacation!

A serious traffic accident occurred on the A9 in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, in which a mobile home was completely destroyed. The affected family, which comes from Hamburg, consisted of a 46-year-old father, a 35-year-old mother and their three children aged 6, 8 and 14. The family was returning from vacation when they were affected by a tire blowout, which caused the driver to steer the RV onto the hard shoulder. A following truck driver, who overlooked the emergency situation, collided at high speed into the rear of the mobile home.

In the tragic incident, the father, mother and six-year-old child suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries. The other two children and the 50-year-old truck driver suffered minor injuries. All injured people were immediately taken to hospitals in the area. Two more cars later hit the tractor-trailer and several vehicles drove over the debris lying on the road. The accident occurred in Schwanstetten in the Roth district in the direction of Berlin.

Additional details about the accident

The estimated material damage amounts to tens of thousands of euros. The A9 was closed for a long period of time. Police are appealing for information from witnesses, particularly those with dashcam footage. You can call 09128/91970. These dramatic events are rooted in a tire burst that not only caused the motorhome, but also significant damage to other vehicles and the highway.

A separate incident on the A9 also occurred that day when a truck crashed into the central barrier due to a tire burst. The 67-year-old driver was driving his tractor-trailer in the direction of Munich when parts of the truck flew into the oncoming lane. A 72-year-old driver from Austria was unable to avoid a piece of debris lying in the left lane and his vehicle was seriously damaged. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident, but the truck, which was loaded with 22 tons of concrete slabs and iron beams, had to be rescued.

The A9 was completely closed in both directions for some time. In the direction of Berlin, the route was reopened after around 30 minutes, while in the direction of Munich the left and middle lanes remained closed for hours. Road users were redirected via the right lane and the hard shoulder. The rescue work took longer due to the serious contamination, which also affected several liters of diesel fuel. The water management office was also on site to provide support. The total damage at both accident sites is likely to be in the mid five-figure range.

The police and fire departments continue to work together to ensure safety on the highway and normalize the traffic situation while the injured people are being treated at local hospitals.
