This event is particularly significant because it marks the release of the band's fourth recording entitled “DIE SCHWARZE”. The event promises to be surprising and unusual for fans of Rio Reiser, the charismatic singer of Ton Steine Scherben. Roger Paul will not only perform the music, but also provide background information on how the songs were created. The band Ton Steine Scherben is considered one of the first and most influential German-speaking rock bands of the 1970s and 1980s. It was founded in 1970 by Rio Reiser, R. P. S. Lanrue, Kaisichtermann and Wolfgang Seidel. Its meaning goes far beyond music; They were an important mouthpiece for new left-wing movements, especially the occupation movement in West Berlin. Their texts were known for their political and emotional statements, some of which were strongly anti-capitalist and anarchist.
The history of the band
Ton Steine Scherben quickly gained popularity and made their first major appearance on September 6, 1970 on the famous Fehmarn stage. The band released their music through their own label “David Volksmund Production” and invited their anarchist fan base to support their creative visions. In the 1970s, pressure from this fan community increased, which ultimately led to the band moving to Fresenhagen.
The group disbanded in 1985 after facing mounting debts and feeling like they had said everything. Rio Reiser then started a solo career and died in 1996. Despite their dissolution, their influence on the German music scene remains significant, as they are described as pioneers of rock music, with a style characterized by a “renegade stance”. The band toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2014, but R. P. S. Lanrue died of cancer on July 14, 2024, marking another loss for the musical community.
