Aargau gymnasts dream of European Championship podium places – all eyes on Leipzig!

The excitement is rising because the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships are just around the corner. The important event will take place in Leipzig from May 26th to 31st, at which Switzerland will be represented by a total of eleven artistic gymnasts. Among these, the team counts eight talents from the canton of Aargau who have set themselves high goals while at the same time taking on the challenge of international competition.

The brothers Luca and Matteo Giubellini, who both compete at STV Eien-Kleindöttingen, are particularly in focus. Luca Giubellini, 22 years old, is aiming for his third European Championship participation and plans to qualify for the final with a new, more difficult jump. His focus is also on a strong team performance during qualification. His younger brother Matteo, 20, has already turned heads with an impressive finish at the Olympic Games, where he finished 10th in the all-around. In Leipzig he wants to support his team and present his exercises solidly. After injury problems last year, he gained additional motivation by winning a bronze medal on parallel bars at a competition in Doha.

The Aargau gymnasts in detail

Florian Langenegger, 22 years old and a member of STV Schlossrued, has set himself realistic goals and is hoping for a top 8 placement in the team and a qualification for the all-around final. His focus is on team dynamics, which are crucial for motivation. Noe Seifert, 26 years old and the most experienced in the team with his fifth European Championship participation, emphasizes that he wants to give his best without pursuing specific placement goals.

Among the other participants is Luca Murabito (22, Kutu Satus ORO), who is aiming to return after shoulder surgery. His goal is to gain the opportunity to start in the vault final with a clean performance. Anny Wu, 22 years old and team captain of the Swiss artistic gymnasts, also wants to shine and is determined to do good exercises in the all-around competition.

With her fifth European Championship participation, Anina Wildi (22, TV Lenzburg) is the first Swiss woman to take responsibility in several disciplines. Her goal is to help the team and do her best. Daria Hartmann, the youngest participant in the team at just 18 years old, is competing at a European Championship for the first time and also wants to show her talent to support the team.

Results and outlook

At the last European Championships, which took place in Rimini, Matteo Giubellini narrowly missed the podium. He reached 4th place in the horse pommel apparatus final with 14.600 points, only 0.200 points separated him from the bronze medal. Gold went to Rhys McClenaghan from Ireland (15,300 points) and silver went to Loran de Munck from the Netherlands (14,933 points). Giubellini was able to place his solid routine ahead of Oleg Vernyaev from Ukraine. Two more Swiss gymnasts will compete on Saturday, Luca Giubellini (vault) and Noe Seifert (bars and horizontal bar), who already attracted attention with strong performances in the qualification.

On Wednesday, Switzerland came 4th in the team final and expectations are high for the upcoming event in Leipzig. We keep our fingers crossed for all athletes and wish them much success!
