Talks in Turkey: Zelensky calls for pressure on Putin and a ceasefire!

Political activity in Turkey has intensified in the current efforts to find a solution to the Ukraine conflict. US President Donald Trump did not rule out attending the talks between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul, but was vague about the timing of his presence. His willingness to travel depends on the development of the discussions, which he sees as potentially promising. This reports daily news.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky faces a decision on next steps after meeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha will explain developments on the battlefield and emphasize the urgency of putting pressure on Moscow.

International exchange and negotiations

Weimar format foreign ministers met in Antalya to discuss with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Sybiha. Their talks are taking place against a background of muted hopes for progress, reports ARD correspondent Birgit Virnich. The Ukrainian representative brushes off reports of the start of official talks, adding to the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations. Nevertheless, Erdoğan is seen as a possible successful mediator.

The Russian delegation, led by adviser Vladimir Medinsky, has already arrived in Istanbul. Vladimir Putin himself will not take part in the talks, nor will Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The exact timing of the talks is yet to be determined, but Russian media reports that they could begin at 10 a.m. local time.

Appeals to Russia and the security situation

Amid the preparations, Federal Foreign Minister Wadephul warns in an interview that Putin must urgently be asked to negotiate directly with Zelensky. In addition, an increase in defense spending to five percent of GDP is required, which supports the US positions. US Secretary of State Rubio emphasizes that a military solution to the conflict is not possible.

Meanwhile, Ukraine reports three casualties in a Russian missile attack on Sumy, underscoring the urgent need to defuse the situation. President Zelensky once again made it clear that Ukraine is ready for negotiations in any format and is not afraid of meeting with Putin Northern Bavaria reported.

It remains to be seen whether the upcoming talks in Turkey can lead to significant change in the current conflict or whether ongoing tensions will continue to undermine political aspirations.
