New security rules in Turkey: If you snap off too early, pay!

Türkei - The Turkish Directorate General for Civil Aviation (SHGM) has introduced a new regulation that defines strict safety rules for passengers in aircraft. This regulation, which came into force at the beginning of May 2025, aims to increase security during and after landing. Passengers who snap off before the string of the string or open the luggage compartment will in future be classified as a "passenger traveling traveler" and risk fines.

The exact amounts for the punishments are not yet known, but according to reports they could be around 60 euros. These new regulations were introduced under the accusation that many passengers disregard the existing rules and thus create dangerous situations.

security through clear guidelines

The regulation is intended to prevent accidents when getting out due to falling luggage or unexpected movements of the aircraft. The cabin staff is now encouraged not only to admonish if there is violations, but also to say that it is only allowed to get up after the final parking position has been reached. These changes were immediately implemented by the Airline Turkish Airlines, which your crew trained accordingly to ensure compliance with the new regulations.

Another aspect of the regulation is the announcement of passengers that they shouldn't get up before they are their turn to leave the plane. Overcrowded corridors during the way out are therefore prohibited to ensure orderly and secure processing. Airlines are obliged to clearly communicate this straps and the possible punishments.

reactions and challenges

Despite these measures, there are still complaints and controls that indicate that many passengers do not adhere to the new rules. The cabin personnel are therefore increasingly asked to emphasize the straps in and after landing and to point out compliance. Airlines that do not meet the requirements can be prosecuted under administrative law.

These new regulations and their implementation represent an important step in order to further increase the safety in air traffic in Turkey. While Turkish Airlines has already reacted to the changes, it remains to be seen how other airlines and passengers will react to these increased requirements.
