Acute travel warning: Dangerous situation in the Middle East for tourists!

On June 13, 2025, the Federal Foreign Office issued an urgent travel warning for several countries in the Middle East region. This measure is a response to the escalating military conflicts between Israel and Iran. Loud Mercury Israel has carried out airstrikes against targeted Iranian targets, while Iran has carried out drone strikes on Israel. The security situation in the region is considered extremely unpredictable, which has also led to the suspension of air traffic in some cases.

The travel warning affects a total of seven countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. Dubai and Abu Dhabi, two very popular travel destinations for German tourists, are particularly under special observation. The German branch advises against all non-essential travel to the entire Gulf region, reports ZDF.

Planned trips and safety precautions

Travelers to these countries should regularly inform themselves about current developments and plan their plans flexibly. German citizens are asked to follow the instructions of local authorities and security forces. Airlines have already suspended some services to the affected countries and there may be short-term airspace closures, which could lead to further complications.

The Foreign Office has also issued a travel warning for all of Israel, which represents a high alert level. This warning also applies to parts of Lebanon and Iraq, where travel is advised against. The hostility between Israel and Iran is not new and has been going on for decades. The Federal Foreign Office Crisis Response Center remains active and is continuously monitoring the situation in the region.

German citizens who are in the affected countries are asked to register on the ELEFAND crisis preparedness list. The embassies are in contact with registered Germans in the region and provide information about exit options. The German embassy in Tel Aviv in particular was closed due to the situation, but can be reached by telephone and in writing.

The latest developments represent a serious challenge for the travel industry and could have a major impact on the travel behavior of German tourists in the region. Before making a decision, travelers should inform themselves comprehensively about their travel plans and follow the Federal Foreign Office's safety instructions.
