Bergbahn-Oberperfuss: Tourism boom and exciting events in Innsbruck!

The Innsbruck tourism region recorded a pleasing increase in overnight stays in the 2025 winter season. With 1.71 million overnight stays, an increase of 6 percent was achieved compared to the pre-Corona period. This positive development can be attributed, among other things, to the new mountain railway in Oberperfuss, which attracts numerous guests and is part of a growing range of winter activities. Among the countries of origin of visitors, Germany, Austria and Switzerland are at the top with increases.

The international interest is particularly noteworthy: the region recorded an increase of 19 percent among Americans, 17 percent among Chinese and 29 percent among Polish guests. Australia is also showing keen interest with an impressive increase of 46 percent, which corresponds to 24,000 overnight stays. These figures show that Innsbruck is not only a destination for locals, but is also becoming increasingly popular internationally.

Diverse events and activities

Winter in Innsbruck not only offers skiing opportunities, but also a variety of events and activities for non-skiers, including hiking, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. Guest length of stay increased to an average of 2.4 nights, an increase of 2 percent. Events such as the Trailrun Festival with 7,000 participants and the Interalpin trade fair, which attracted 36,800 visitors, contribute to the revival of tourism.

The month of December in particular is a highlight in the tourist calendar due to the numerous Advent markets. In addition, the “Peter Anich III” combined lift on the Rangger Köpfl reached 100,000 skier days for the first time, underlining the region's attractiveness for winter sports enthusiasts. Two thirds of the guests are locals, which shows the population's connection to the region.

Family-friendly excursion destinations

A highlight for families in the region is the Innsbruck Alpine Zoo. The zoo, which is ideal to visit in the run-up to Christmas, is located on the sunny side of the Inn Valley and extends picturesquely up the mountain slope to Hungerburg. You can travel comfortably with the Hungerburgbahn, and a combination ticket for the train and entry to the zoo is available, which also includes parking in the underground car park in Innsbruck.

The Alpine Zoo complex is designed close to nature and offers exciting animal observations. Although winter is not the ideal time for zoo visits - as some animals hibernate - visitors were still able to gain unique insight into the lives of animals such as lynx, chamois and brown bears. Feeding goats and sheep is a highlight, especially for children. The zoo also offers an impressive view of the Inn Valley and Innsbruck, which makes the visit a special experience.

There is also the ANIMAHL bistro and a pet shop on site to round off the visit. Another attractive offering in the area is the Christmas market at Hungerburg, which is small but offers a great view of Innsbruck. After a day full of experiences, visitors are often drawn back to the Inn Valley, where there are numerous sights.

Overall, the Innsbruck region offers a varied program in the winter season, both for skiers and families. The combination of nature, events and cultural highlights creates a unique holiday experience.
