Ten years after her official declaration of death: Ylenia Carrisi dead or alive?
Ylenia Carrisi, the eldest daughter of the famous Italian singer couple Al Bano (81) and Romina Power (73), disappeared without a trace in New Orleans on New Year's Eve 1993. Since then, more than three decades have passed, during which her parents never gave up hope of seeing their daughter again one day. Even though Al Bano officially declared Ylenia dead in 2014, Romina firmly believes that she is alive and will return. She most recently expressed this belief on the Italian TV show “Verissimo,” where she felt a strong connection with her daughter on Ylenia’s birthday in November.
Ylenia, who was born in Rome on November 29, 1970, is not only the daughter of two well-known artists, but also the granddaughter of the American actor Tyrone Power and the Mexican actress Linda Christian. After first appearing with her parents in the 1983 film “Champagne in Paradiso,” she developed a passion for writing and studied literature at King’s College London. There she achieved the best grades in her class and planned to become a novelist. To pursue her dreams, she sold her possessions and began traveling the world alone.
The mysterious disappearance
Ylenia traveled through South America in 1993 and arrived in New Orleans on December 26th. She was last seen in the French Quarter while rooming with busker Alexander Masakela at the LeDale Hotel. On January 6, 1994, she disappeared under mysterious circumstances, which led to the initiation of extensive search operations. However, she remained untraceable and a Coast Guard search revealed no evidence of her body.
A security guard reported a woman resembling Ylenia saying she belonged in the water before jumping into the Mississippi River. These reports have made the mysterious case all the more puzzling. Every New Year's Eve, the family remembers Ylenia's last sign of life, which they heard on December 31, 1993, before reporting her missing on January 18, 1994.
An uncertain fate
Although Al Bano and Romina Power have heard various speculations about Ylenia's whereabouts - including reports claiming she is living in a monastery in Arizona - the situation remains uncertain. Al Bano described such reports as “shameful speculation without a shred of truth,” while Romina continues to believe in the possibility that her daughter will one day return.
Overall, the fate of Ylenia Carrisi remains a sad and fascinating mystery that touches the hearts of her family and fans worldwide. While her parents will never give up looking for her, the hope of a reunion remains intact.
