Traveling remains essential for Germans: 88% are now planning a vacation!

The online travel agent's new "Traveler Value Index 2025" shows that, despite ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainties, travel remains an essential part of the lives of many people around the world. According to the survey, 88 percent of those surveyed are planning a vacation trip within the next twelve months, with 68 percent wanting to fly abroad. This marks a 19 percent increase compared to the 2022 survey, underscoring the increasing importance of travel. The survey was conducted among 11,000 representative adults in 11 key markets including the US, Germany, China and the UK, demonstrating the global reach of the results. Aerotelegraph reported that around half of the participants consider travel to be more important today than it was five years ago.

Trust in providers and booking decisions is very important because three quarters of travelers are willing to pay more for well-rated accommodation. This is particularly clear since 80 percent of respondents under the age of 40 attach great importance to positive online reviews. The importance of social media as a source of inspiration is also growing; 61 percent of participants use platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube to collect travel ideas. This is an increase of 26 percent compared to last year, when 35 percent consulted social media when planning their trip. The day ticket highlights that 84 percent of those under 40 say that travel influencers significantly influence their decisions.

Price consciousness and travel trends

Around 58 percent of those surveyed said they were more price-conscious when traveling today. At the same time, 83 percent of participants are interested in redeeming loyalty points for travel. This willingness shows the changed customer behavior and the need for attractive offers beyond traditional travel providers. In Germany, many travelers attach particular importance to the refundability of air travel, while Chinese travelers prefer contactless travel.

The Traveler Value Index provides travel providers with valuable insights into the changing needs of their customers and highlights the core living environment that travel represents for consumers around the world. In this context, Germany, Great Britain and China have the highest rates of planned trips abroad. These results clearly show that travel remains an important area of life in which many are willing to invest time and resources.
