Where is Huay Mark Lium Hot Spring?

This naturally heated pool is located in Lam Nam Kok National Park, about 40 minutes by motorbike from Chiang Rai. Although this area is not often visited by tourists, there are some great opportunities for adventure nearby, including a stop at Huay Kaew Waterfall.

You can rent a motorbike in Chiang Rai for 150 baht per day. If you are staying at Grace Hostel, the owner can arrange this for you.

Would you like to join a hill tribe trekking tour in Chiang Rai? Consider this 2-day, 1-night trek and jungle stay for under $90 with all meals included.

Huay Mark Lium Hot Spring and Lam Nam Kok National Park

When you arrive, you will notice that this place is almost deserted. There's a well-tended garden, some local fishermen casting into a few select ponds, and of course the small and unimpressive; Huay Mark Lium Hot Spring.

As mentioned, this hot spring is far too hot for comfort at 56 degrees Celsius. Trust me, you definitely won't want to stick your feet in here.

However, if you're desperate for a warm swim, you can follow the drain through the park that leads to the river. I took a quick dip where the hot spring drain met the cold running water, which was refreshing.

Chiang Rai's alternative hot spring for swimming: Pong Phra Soet

Pong Phra Soet Hot Springs are also located in Lam Nam Kok National Park and are just 1 km from Huay Mark Liam. In fact, you will pass these hot springs on your way.

However, these springs have been converted into a commercial operation and have consequently lost their natural feel. However, if you're looking for a warm sulfur bath in northern Thailand, stop at the Pong Phra Soet hot springs. So, unlike the Huay Mark Lium hot spring, here you can swim, bathe and even cook eggs.

I have pinned the location of Pong Phra Soet Hot Springs on the Google Maps below.

My accommodation in Chiang Mai: Grace HostelGrace Hostel was actually one of my favorite hostels in Northern Thailand. The free breakfast is great. Although it's just outside the city center, the friendly owner can drive you to the markets or the bus station for free.

Cheapest Dorm in Chiang Rai: Bar 184 Party HostelBar 184 has dorms for under $5 per night, which is the cheapest you'll find in Chiang Rai. These guys also arrange motorbikes if you would like you to take one to Huay Mark Lium Hot Spring Chiang Rai.

I always compare accommodations between Hostelworld, Booking.com and Agoda. Between these three you will always get the cheapest price and the best offers. I find that Booking.com usually has the best deals for Thailand.
