Traveling to Thailand: Travel warning for border provinces!

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently classified travel to seven provinces bordering Cambodia as extremely risky. How wochenblitz.com reported, the provinces of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Buri Ram, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi and Trat are affected. The situation is tense, although there is currently a ceasefire between Thai and Cambodian forces.

Martial law was declared in certain districts such as Chanthaburi and Trat. Authorities are warning of a fragile situation and are asking both tourists and locals to follow instructions from the military and local authorities. All border crossings and tourist attractions such as national parks are closed to visitors.

Affected areas and restrictions

Visitors must follow strict safety precautions as access to many key attractions is temporarily restricted. These include:

  • Ubon Ratchathani: Phu Chong Na Yoi Nationalpark, Kaeng Lamduan, Yod Dom Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • Surin: Prasat Ta Muen Thom/Tod, Prasat Ta Kwai, Phanom Swai Forest Park.
  • Si Sa Ket: Khao Phra Wihan Nationalpark.
  • Buri Ram: Phanom Rung Historical Park, Prasat Mueang Tam.
  • Sa Kaeo: Ban Khlong Luek Checkpoint, Rong Kluea Market.
  • Chanthaburi und Trat: Grenzübergänge wie Ban Hat Lek, Ban Muen Dan, Ban Ma Muang.

In addition, entry and exit via official checkpoints is completely prohibited. Roads near the border should be avoided. However, normal operations of domestic and international transport services remain guaranteed and other major destinations in Thailand, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui, Krabi or Pattaya, remain accessible.

Important recommendations for travelers

The TAT recommends travelers to continuously follow official updates and stay informed about current developments. For information please contact the TAT Call Center on 1672 and the Tourist Police on 1155. The travel warning is continually updated depending on the situation on site.
