Duy Xuyen: Local products conquer the market with new production network
The Cua Dai Fish Sauce Factory in Duy Nghia Municipality has established itself as a pioneer in working with local fishermen to guarantee a steady supply of raw materials for product processing. This model shows how efficiency can be increased through networked production. At the same time, the Huy Hoang business in Duy Phu has developed an innovative production and processing model with its black apple snails. The factory supplies snail seeds and raw materials to households and purchases their end products, thereby stabilizing the local economy.
A notable achievement is the certification of the factory's bamboo tube auger product, which was awarded the 3-star OCOP label in 2024. Such successes contribute to the added value and quality of local products. In addition, the Cua Dai and Duy Trinh fish sauce factories have established cooperation to support fishermen with fuel and other fishing services. Signed contracts also ensure that there are sufficient raw materials for fish sauce production.
OCOP products and their challenges
Interest in Duy Trinh fish sauce continues to grow, further encouraging the efforts of local producers. Since 2018, a total of 28 products have been recognized by OCOP standards in Duy Xuyen, including six 4-star and 22 3-star products. This program, which promotes the standardization of processes and the application of scientific and technological advances, is a step in the right direction.
Despite this progress, there are significant challenges. Many OCOP products are characterized by low production capacity, unable to meet market demand. In addition, many companies find it difficult to expand their marketing opportunities, which hampers the growth and development of these products.
Value chains and sustainable development
The creation of value chains ranging from raw material production to processing and consumption has begun to promote sustainable development in the region. Collaboration between farmers, scientists, companies and managers is crucial to increase the efficiency and quality of OCOP products. However, there are still numerous limitations in implementing projects to link these value chains.
The average production volume of many OCOP companies is often small and seasonal. Difficulties in ensuring a stable supply of raw materials and insufficient capacity to invest in infrastructure and technology are hampering growth. In addition, the consumption of OCOP products is strongly linked to events and festivals, without stable distribution channels being available.
To remain competitive in global markets, OCOP products must meet strict intellectual property requirements and product standards. In addition, work is underway to link OCOP product production with the tourism sector in Duy Xuyen to create additional sales opportunities.
