Mourning for Tran Duc Luong: State funeral on May 24th in Hanoi

On May 24, 2025, the national burial ceremony for former President Tran Duc Luong was organized in Vietnam. The solemn occasion follows his death on May 20, 2025 at the age of 88 in Hanoi, where he died after a serious illness. Tran Duc Luong was born on May 5, 1937 in Pho Khanh Township, Duc Pho District, Quang Ngai Province and leaves a significant legacy in the country's political history.

Tran Duc Luong's funeral will take place at the National Funeral Home in Hanoi. The funeral committee, consisting of 34 members and headed by Comrade Luong Cuong, is responsible for organizing the ceremony. Funeral services will begin on May 24th at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 7:00 a.m. the following day, followed by a memorial service on May 25th at 7:00 a.m.

Celebrations and mourning period

The actual burial will take place on May 25th at 3:00 p.m. at the cemetery in his hometown. At the same time, there will be commemorations in Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ngai. These celebrations are intended to do justice to the great influence and achievements of Tran Duc Luong.

During the mourning period on May 24th and 25th, flags will be flown at half-mast. In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has specifically ordered that no public entertainment activities will take place during this period. National sporting events planned during this period have been temporarily suspended and competition schedules adjusted accordingly.
