Vietnamese tourism: take off with 22 million visitors in 2025!
On April 10, 2025, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Notice No. 34/CD TTg to promote tourism development. The goal is to welcome 22 to 23 million international visitors and 130 million domestic visitors by the end of the year. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is tasked with implementing this communication and involving relevant agencies in the measures. The Vietnamese National Tourism Administration is in focus to promote pilot projects and activities for sustainable and high-quality tourism. The funding is aimed not only at increasing visitor numbers, but also at implementing sustainable practices in tourism.
A key aspect is the integration of digital technologies and cultural values into tourism promotion. The focus is on developing diverse service types that meet the needs of modern travelers: resort tourism, healthcare, ecotourism and socially responsible community tourism are just some of the targeted areas. The challenges lie in accelerating digital and green transformation to help improve the tourist experience.
Sustainability in tourism
The current strategy is also focused on sustainable tourism, which takes into account not only economic but also ecological and social dimensions. Sustainable tourism is characterized by environmental sustainability, economic fairness and social justice. The aim is not to burden nature and local people, which is to be achieved through various approaches. We suggest avoiding large hotel complexes and using climate-friendly means of transport instead. This is also reflected in recommendations for sustainable travel, such as avoiding air travel and supporting the local economy by shopping in local stores.
In addition to promoting environmentally conscious travel practices, strengthening local communication and transport infrastructure is expected. Improved cooperation between regions and sectors should make it easier to attract tourists. In this context, the deployment of international film crews in Vietnam is also highlighted in order to present the country as an attractive travel destination.
Specifications and developments
An essential part of the new strategy is the continuous review and control of the quality of tourist services. A report on the implementation of the measures will be made to the Prime Minister in May 2025, while a full evaluation of progress is expected in June. Cultural and artistic events are also planned, which not only serve to attract tourists but also contribute to promoting cultural exchange.
Overall, the support from the Ministry of Planning and Finance will help develop policies to invest in tourism infrastructure. This is crucial to meet the demands of modern, sustainable tourism and to create a long-term basis for Vietnam's tourism development. With a smart tourism ecosystem and a focus on travelers' needs, Vietnam aims to position itself as a leading destination in the field of sustainable tourism.
