Andrea Kiewel inspires in the TV garden – ESC special with record ratings!

On May 18, 2025, the “ZDF TV Garden” was dedicated to the “Eurovision Song Contest” (ESC). Moderator Andrea Kiewel, who has been an enthusiastic supporter of the competition for many years, hosted the program, which looked back on past ESC events. In the anniversary season of “TV Garden”, which started on May 4, 2025, Kiewel was able to attract 1.63 million viewers with its show, which corresponds to a market share of 17.2 percent. For comparison: on May 11th only 1.12 million tuned in. This resulted in a pleasing increase in the number of viewers.

The ESC took place the day before, on May 17th, and was watched by around 300 million people in Europe. For this occasion, various guests supported Kiewel in the TV garden, including DSDS winner Luca Hänni, singer Francine Jordi and influencer Aditotoro. Kiewel's difficulties in remembering the names of the ESC presenters such as Michelle Hunziker, Hazel Brugger and Sandra Studer in particular caused a few laughs.

A comeback with little sleep

Musician Luca Hänni, who was part of the ESC, humorously reported that he only had one hour of sleep between the competition and his appearance on the “ Fernsehengarten”. In a conversation with Kiewel, the two reflected on his ESC appearance, which Hänni saw as a comeback without pressure. It was a successful start that not only fueled ESC fever, but also celebrated the connection between the audience and the artists.

The German contribution to the ESC 2025, “Abor & Tynna”, was unfortunately not personally present at the special, but made it onto the agenda. Next Sunday, May 25th, the motto will be “SchlagerDARTEN”, with guests like Nik P., Vincent Gross, Sonia Liebing, Ella Finally and the band Höhner. These talented artists are sure to captivate viewers once again.

Overall, the “TV Garden” under Andrea Kiewel has once again proven that it is an entertaining format that never leaves you bored, even in anniversary times. The ESC special not only aroused the interest of viewers, but also drove up viewer numbers. Further success can be expected for future shows as the series continues to celebrate the diversity of the music scene.
