This beautiful beach is a real hidden paradise, with its narrow bay, which is almost completely covered by boats from the outside. It is only when the end are realized why this beach was named Europe's best beach!
About the Stiniva beach
Stiniva Beach is protected from the open sea through a narrow, winding bay that leads to a beautiful pebble beach. Here you can expect crystal clear water and a wild landscape that looks like it belongs from a James Bond film!
Stiniva Cove was once a large karst cave that was created in the ice age when the sea level was 120 meters lower than today. However, the cave collapsed thousands of years ago and formed this beautiful bay lined with cliffs.
In fact, on the eastern side of the cliff, you can still see traces of stalactite caves when you swim past the narrow entrance and look to the right.
While this remote beach was a local insider tip for a long time, it was named the best beach in Europe by European Best Destinations due to its unique natural beauty.
As a result, this is the most popular beach on Vis today, and many travelers travel to this remote Adriatic island just to swim in their calm waters.
Where is the Bay of Stiniva?

I visited Stiniva Beach twice during my trips in Croatia. Once it was independent on a 5-island boat trip to the Blue Grotto of Split and the other by renting a scooter on the island.
In any case, visiting the Stiniva Beach is an unforgettable experience! In the following I will show you how to get here by breaking down the two main options.

Due to the remote location, one of the best ways to get to the beach of Stinva is a boat tour.

Independent hike to the Bay of Stiniva
For those who are already exploring the island and looking for a way to get to Stiniva Bay, they also have the opportunity to hike from the street.
I visited Vis on a 7-day trip with Sail Croatia (highly recommended) and decided to rent a moped in the city of Vis (26-40 euros per day). From here it was only a 15 -minute drive to the starting point.
Alternatively, you can also take a taxi or Uber, which costs between 9 and 10 euros.
The starting point is on the top of the hill right next to the Villa Luana, where you will find a large, unpaved parking lot and a sign.
The hiking trail to the beach in Stiniva
From the starting point of the hiking trail, a narrow path leads down the steep cliffs to the beautiful beach of Stiniva. This path is a combination of steps and some not graded sections with loose rocks and pebbles that lead to the shore.
Expect that you reach the beach from the starting point of the hiking trail within about 15 minutes. In addition, when you descend you will have better and better prospects on this breathtaking beach, which is revealed between the trees and bushes.
Finally you reach the gravel bank next to a small bar right on the beach.

As soon as you arrive at Stiniva on the beach, you will understand why this remarkable bay houses one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
The narrow sea entrance and the unique rock formations form a beautiful protected bay. On all sides, high cliffs form a rounded amphitheater that offers natural shadows and calm, crystal clear water throughout the bay.
Along the white gravel coast you will find many places where you can sit down and enjoy the warm Dalmatian sun. The crystal clear sea in the Bay of Stiniva is also perfect for swimming and snorkeling, with a great view all year round.
If you also climb on both sides of the rock formations at the entrance to the bay, you have great opportunities for cliff jumping. These are both at the mouth of the sea, with the highest jump at about 12 meters! So make sure you are prepared!

When is the best time to travel for Stiniva?
Since it is a popular beach, I recommend a visit early in the morning or in the late afternoon to defeat the crowds.
What should I bring with me?
I suggest that sunscreen, sealed shoes for the hike and water shoes for the beach. You can buy snacks and refreshments at the small bar, but it is also a good idea to take some water with you.
