300,000 euros for the Bauhaus anniversary: Dessau-Roßlau takes off!
On May 15, 2025, Sven Schulze, Minister for Economy, Tourism, Agriculture and Forestry of Saxony-Anhalt, handed over two important funding notices to the city marketing company Dessau-Roßlau mbH. The total of around 300,000 euros is intended to help promote tourism marketing on the occasion of the “100 Years of Bauhaus in Dessau” anniversary and to expand digital information offerings. These funds will be used to support both anniversary markets and new digital guest terminals, with both projects being in line with the goals of the Tourism 2027 Master Plan.
The first funding project to promote the Bauhaus anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2025 and 2026, will receive 161,775 euros. Various cross-media campaigns are planned, which include print, online and outdoor advertising, alongside press trips, social media measures and close collaboration with the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and local partners. The aim is to build on the success of the anniversary year 2019 and reach new target groups.
Digital guest terminals as an information hub
Another supported project includes the installation of four digital guest terminals, which are funded with 138,000 euros. These terminals, located in high-traffic locations, provide comprehensive information about attractions, events, dining and accommodations in the region. They are designed to be barrier-free and bilingual and are intended to be integrated into the city's tourist information system.
The two projects focus on improving the visibility of tourist offers and strengthening the quality of stay. Dessau-Roßlau is increasingly being described as a cultural lighthouse and model for future-oriented tourism development, especially with regard to the upcoming Bauhaus anniversary.
Celebrations and events
Starting in September 2025, the Bauhaus anniversary will be celebrated with a series of events including exhibitions, artistic programming, conferences and festivals. A particular focus is on modern and contemporary materials. In addition, a reading series entitled “1925 – The Bauhaus comes to Dessau” begins on January 28, 2025. This series, organized by the Dessau-Roßlau Cultural Office and City Archives in cooperation with the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, looks at the year 1925, when the Bauhaus moved to Dessau. Historical daily newspapers and other sources are discussed in order to shed light on the aesthetic and political trends of the time.
The reading series starts in the Bauhaus Museum Dessau and then switches between different historical locations. An accompanying exhibition with historical photographs is planned in the Museum of City History. The publication on the reading series will be presented as part of the Triennale der Moderne in Dessau, which will take place from September 26th to 28th, 2025. This extensive program demonstrates the city's commitment to keeping the importance of the Bauhaus alive and celebrating its influence on the modern art and design movement.
