Adventure on wheels: Family from Ho Chi Minh City explores Vietnam!

In Ho Chi Minh City, the family of Ms. Doan Thanh Giang (30 years old) and Mr. Nguyen Minh Tam (36 years old) began a new chapter of their travel experiences. With an investment of around VND 1.5 billion, they purchased a motorhome that consists of a pickup truck and special motorhome equipment from Germany. This decision was inspired by the birth of her third child in order to enable longer trips with the entire family in the future. Annual trips with grandparents already strengthen family bonds.

The newly designed motorhome is a true space miracle. It offers a two-story sleeping area, equipped with mattresses measuring 1.6 x 2 m and 0.8 x 2 m. Additionally, air conditioning, a waterproof tent, a mobile awning and a water tank are available. An electricity storage system allows household appliances to run for up to four days after just 20 hours of charging, while a solar panel on the roof supports power supply.

The first big trip

The family went on an official trip across Vietnam in December 2024. They covered more than 13,000 km in a total of 35 days, which included a flexible itinerary covering approximately 300 km daily. They had numerous adventures and encounters on this trip, which had a total cost of VND 50 million, including VND 25 million for fuel and VND 10 million for food.

They had previously undertaken a three-week “test drive” where they stayed in hotels and motels. Although their original route was via Phan Thiet and the mountainous provinces, they decided to also go off the beaten track. They often found accommodation in picturesque places such as beaches, parks or cafés.

Challenges and experiences

However, there were also difficulties on their journey, such as the car getting stuck in the sand, heavy rains and a flat tire. These challenges helped train the children in self-reliance and resilience while further strengthening family bonds.

Another valuable aspect of their trip was the encounters with locals, which often led to friendships and new shared experiences. Vietnam, with its diverse sensory experiences, exotic spices at night markets and impressive culinary landscape, offered the family an unforgettable atmosphere. The hospitality of the locals and the fascinating culture of Vietnam helped make this trip a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The family is already planning further adventures in the southeast and southwest of Vietnam as well as trips to neighboring countries to discover other facets of this fascinating country. Vietnam not only created memories for them, but also gave them the opportunity to explore their own roots and the beauty of nature.

For those considering a similar trip, various providers offer: Unseen Vietnam Tours, a variety of opportunities to explore the country and its unique culture.

Ms. Giang and Mr. Tam's experiences remind us how valuable and enriching traveling together can be for the entire family. It's not just discovering new places but also strengthening family bonds that makes these trips valuable.
