Farewell to Pastor Bürkle: A moving end in Atzenweiler!

Pastor Manfred Bürkle and his wife Lib Briscoe, who worked as choir director, are retiring. This decision marks the end of the pastorate in Atzenweiler, as the community will be merged into a merged parish of Atzenweiler-Vogt. On Sunday, May 11th, the farewell service will take place at 10 a.m. in the Atzenweiler Evangelical Church.

Manfred Bürkle took over the pastorate in Atzenweiler in September 2005 after moving from Leonberg to Upper Swabia. During his time in the community, he repeatedly spoke out about racist incidents that had affected him and his family since the time he met his wife in Tübingen. In Atzenweiler, too, the couple felt appreciation for their artistic and musical contributions, such as Lib's involvement as director of the Ravensburg choir "Voice Affair" and her plans to realize a musical about the biblical Ruth.

A colorful farewell

During his term in office, Bürkle created an artificial flock of sheep in the parish garden, which also received media attention when a rainbow sheep was damaged and ultimately destroyed. After moving near Augsburg, where they will live with their son Alexander, Bürkle plans to devote more time to psychological counseling.

With Bürkle's departure, the Atzenweiler pastorate will be eliminated. The rectory is to be sold, while the church remains as a place for preaching. Lib Briscoe, who taught singing lessons and produced musicals, already has plans for creative projects to pursue after the move. Her artistic presence will certainly be missed in the region.

Farewell concerts and dates

In addition to the farewell service, concerts by the “Ecumenical Choir Grünkraut” are also planned. These take place on the following dates:

  • Samstag, 28. Juni, 19.30 Uhr, Evangelische Kirche Atzenweiler
  • Sonntag, 29. Juni, 18 Uhr, St. Anna in Vogt
  • Sonntag, 6. Juli, 17 Uhr, Comboni Missionshaus in Mellatz
