Camping prices in MV are rising: Angry boss fights against panic departures!

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, camping prices for the 2025 season have risen by almost three percent. This makes the federal state one of the most expensive in Germany, along with Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg. The average price for an overnight stay camping in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will be 43 euros in 2025, which, however, remains below the European average of 52 euros ADAC reported.

Jens Dröge, manager of the “Ecktannen” campsite in Waren, contradicts the ADAC statements about the price increases. He explains that his prices have remained stable for three years, with the exception of increases for long-term campers. Dröge does not want to impose additional financial burdens on its guests, as many holidaymakers come from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where purchasing power is lower. Despite his concerns, he is planning a price increase for next season due to increased renovation costs.

Influences on the camping market

Another major problem for the camping industry is “panic weather coverage” in the media, which causes guests to leave early when bad weather forecasts occur. On the Men's Day weekend, a weather warning led to a loss of sales of around 3,000 euros and 60 cancellations at Dröge's campsite. This phenomenon could further endanger the stability of the industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

In addition to the weather problem, the lack of staff in shift work is also an issue that concerns many operators. Manja Zachmann, operator of the “Am Grünen Baum” campsite in Neustrelitz, cannot afford a price increase because she first wants to establish herself.

Regional price differences

How Northern Courier reported, the prices in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania vary depending on the region and the condition of the campsites. An overview of the increases shows:

  • Ostseeküste: Anstieg von 47 auf 52 Euro
  • Usedom: Anstieg von 44 auf 50 Euro
  • Fischland-Darß-Zingst: Anstieg um einen Euro auf 44 Euro
  • Mecklenburgische Seenplatte: Preis bleibt bei 40 Euro
  • Rügen: Preis sinkt auf 41 Euro
  • Abseits touristischer Hotspots: 34 Euro, gleichbleibend

Campgrounds have become more flexible in their pricing, similar to hotels, and early reservations are recommended to save money. In Germany, the average price of 38 euros per night for a family of three remains the cheapest in Europe, followed by increases in other countries such as Croatia (68 euros) and Italy (66 euros).
