Tourism Day: Tegernsee unites forces for a strong future!

On May 23, 2025, Tourism Day took place in the picturesque Tegernsee, an important event that brought together around 200 tourism service providers. The Minister of Finance and Homeland, Albert Füracker, was invited as a guest speaker and emphasized the central message of the event: “Cohesion and cooperation” are essential for the tourism development of the region. Loud Mercury It is crucial that the five towns around Tegernsee, supported by Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT), work closely together.

The TTT has been praised for its successful unification of the region, with managing director Christian Kausch giving positive feedback on the participants' collaboration. Kreuth's mayor Josef Bierschneider pointed out that the municipality alone cannot meet the challenges of tourism. This is also reflected in the latest statistics from Regional Development Oberland (REO), which show a clear increase in tourism. In 2023, the Alpine region of Tegernsee Schliersee recorded 756,873 arrivals and 2,532,306 overnight stays, which represents an increase compared to the previous year, but remains far from the pre-crisis levels of 2019, as Tegernsee voice reported.

Results and outlook

The event also offered space for informative lectures. Barbara Radomski, Managing Director of Bayern Tourismus Marketing GmbH, presented encouraging results: In 2024, Bavarian tourism achieved sales of 47.5 billion euros and created 550,000 jobs. Particularly noteworthy is the record year 2024 with 103 million overnight stays, while Tegernsee experienced an increase of 2.28% in overnight stays and 5.55% in arrivals.

Another highlight was the lecture by Maria Vassilakou, the former deputy mayor of Vienna. She spoke about successful urban development through partnerships, while Peter Tauber, author and former Parliamentary State Secretary, ended the event with his final lecture “Trust the new ways”.

Regional challenges

However, given the positive developments, the region also faces challenges. The average length of stay of guests at 3.35 days has shortened. In addition, the number of guests in some places is aging, which requires targeted measures to increase the attractiveness and diversify the offering. Bayrischzell in particular shows how a new hotel establishment can have positive effects on overnight stays and younger guests.

The current data shows that the Schliersee market is at the top with 162,837 arrivals, while Bad Wiessee shines with the most overnight stays (567,683). Among the municipalities, Gmund recorded the largest increase in arrivals (+28.3%) and Tegernsee the largest increase in overnight stays (+15.2%).

The event at Tegernsee once again underlined that cohesion in the region is essential in order to advance tourism development and make optimal use of the potential of the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region.
