A useful guide to John Suwan's viewpoint on the southern tip of the island of Koh Tao. Find out how you come here and what to expect!
Koh Tao is one of these islands that seems to have everything. If you are looking for according to the viewpoints - the John Suwan viewpoint is one of the best.
With a similar panoramic view as the Koh Nang Yuan viewpoint, John Suwan looks at both the east and west coast of Koh Tao. Located on the outermost south tip of the island, this viewpoint offers a unique view that should be on the list of all top activities on Koh Tao.
How do you get John Suwan on Koh Tao?
Those who come from the main tourist district of Sairee or Mae Head have to take a moped to the Freedom Beach. It shouldn't take longer than 15 minutes to reach this beach from almost anywhere on Koh Tao. The best way to achieve the viewpoint is by parking your bike on the top of the Freedom Beach Carpark and then going up the path up to John Suwan Viewpoint.
As soon as you have reached the parking lot, walk past the resort, past the signs to the beach of freedom and follow the unpaved road that leads to the left. Follow this street until you reach a small tent, which is set up by the owner of the property.
John Suwan Viewpoint fee
Since this viewpoint is on private ground, the owner demands a fee. It costs 15 baht per person to reach the tip of the viewpoint.
Hiking to the summit of the viewpoint
The climb is short, only 500 meters and should only take about 10 minutes. However, as you probably already know, it can be very hot to hike even short distances on Koh Tao.
There are also parts that require a little crawling. There are some ropes for those who need an additional hand to climb the rocks. However, the viewpoint can be achieved by any physically disabled person.Aktivitäten auf der insel koh tao in thailand">
You could also come across a pack of dogs who live in the country. Don't worry, these boys are friendly, but become extremely territorial when you see or hear other street dogs. With such an epic point of view, I would also be pretty territorial.
