Bridal Veil Falls & Champagne Falls (Tasmania) - Epic Cradle Mountain Waterfalls

Bridal Veil Falls & Champagne Falls (Tasmania) - Epic Cradle Mountain Waterfalls

A detailed guide to visit the Bridal Veil Falls and Champagne Falls near the Lemonthyme Lodge Wilderness Retreat, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. Explore two of Tassie's most picturesque waterfalls in a picturesque circular hike.

With all the incredible natural attractions that the CRADLE MOUNTAIN region has to offer in Tasmania, you will certainly not assume the things you can do and see. However, if you prefer to skip the masses and explore some hidden jewels, then I strongly recommend that you look at the Bridal Veil Falls & Champagne.

In this guide, I explain to you how to get to these waterfalls, which you can expect on the short circular hike, and I add some photos that I took during my visit.

Bridal Veil Falls & Champagne Fall-where is that?

The Bridal Veil Falls and the Champagne Falls can be reached on the same hiking trail that goes from the Lemonthyme Lodge Wilderness Retreat near Cradle Mountain, Tasmania. This is about 31 kilometers from the Cardle Mountain Visitor Center.

Although you do not have to stay in this lodge to gain access to the waterfalls, it is in my opinion a really underestimated option for those who are looking for a comfortable basis in the wilderness to explore the region.

How do I get here

Since this is a less visited part of Cradle Country, you need your own means of transport to get here. The only way to navigate to this epic waterfall duo is the rather steep and winding "Cradle Mountain RD". This is the same street you take to get to the visitor center.

However, the junction to the waterfalls and the wilderness resort is a little earlier (when you come from the north). The street bears the name "Dolocath Road", a 7.8 kilometer -long unpaved road. This is a bit tight with steep slopes on the side, but we made it in our large motorhome. In good weather, every 2WD is in order.

As soon as you arrive at the Lemonthyme Lodge, you will find enough space to park with good signage for the beginning of the waterfall path to the Bridal Veil Falls and the Champagne Falls.

Bridal Veil Falls & Champagne Falls Circuit Loop

Hiking route: 5.2 km circular path
Duration: 1.5-2 hours
meter of altitude: 300 meters in total
Light-Medium

This waterfall path to the Bridal Veil Falls and Champagne Falls is a decent circular route that is very wide and continuously signposted. It is possible to just hike to a waterfall, but I would recommend doing this hike as a tour to avoid a double way back. In this way you can also see two epic waterfalls instead of just one! I ran this loop against clockwise, which I would recommend because it ensures a more cozy hike.

The route is suitable for everyone who has a decent fitness. The only real increase is near the start, which follows a 4WD route for about one and a half kilometers before turning to the champagne Falls.

champagne falls

After the rather steep climb of 1.5 kilometers, you can see the wooden signpost to the champagne Falls. This next section down to the Champagne Falls is much narrower and falls steeply to the foot of the waterfall.

To be honest, I hadn't really expected champagne if so epic. This could be because he is often overshadowed by his somewhat larger neighbor: the Bridal Veil Falls. In my opinion, Champagne is my favorite of the two due to the beautiful green vegetation that surrounds it.

You may notice that a large part of the waterfall is covered by a rocky lead and poet vegetation from the "official" visibility area. However, we went around this to get a better viewpoint to the waterfall. I also dared a little further into the gorge to get some unique perspectives.

As soon as you enjoyed the view of the champagne, you can continue. On the way down to the Bridal Veil Falls, which are further upstream on the Bull Creek. Do not go back the same way, but continue and follow the wooden signs directly from the waterfall.

Soon you cross the stream and then follow it another kilometer upstream before you reach the main event. Bridal veil falls.

This waterfall is about 25 meters high, only 5 meters higher than the champagne Falls. You will find it on a wide clearing with an impressive height difference. Right below is a bridge that is a great place to take pictures.
