Dümmerweserland is booming: More holidaymakers and fresh ideas for the region!
Ströhen, Deutschland - Tourism in the Dümmümweserland receives a strong upswing. As the Dümmerweserland Touristik reports, the region has increasing figures for overnight stays and guest arrivals. At the first general meeting in 2025 in Sulingen, managing director Dorothea Schneider presented the positive developments and future projects. In 2024, the region reached a total of 681,413 overnight stays and 242,958 guest arrivals. This represents an increase of 3 percent in the event of overnight stays and 8 percent in arrivals compared to the previous year.
An essential driver for this positive development is the Marissa Resort in the Lemförde community community. The website www.duemmerweserland.de last year 156,100 users and a total of 1.6 million clicks - an increase of 6 percent. In addition, a AI-based chatbot was used, which led 5,739 automated guest talks. These progress match the implementation of the tourist development concept, which aims to further strengthen the region as a tourist goal.
tourist measures and development approaches
The general meeting also included a detailed presentation of the Dorothea Schneider tourism concept, which provides for the improvement of the region in the next ten years. Both municipal representatives and tourism providers took part in the event in the zoo restaurant in Ströhen. Important points are the upgrading of canoe tourism on the waters Hunte and Great Aue as well as the creation of regional discovering points, which are intended to serve as a photo locations and adventures.
The tourist development concept includes a total of 58 measures that range from the professionalization of the tourism organization to a professional marketing strategy. These steps are necessary to increase the efficiency of the tourist offers in the region. In this context, Jenny Meyer from Project M also identified existing weaknesses, such as the large number of overlapping tourism organizations, financial bottlenecks and poor networking of the offers.
growth potential and future forecasts
The Dümmünerland region has excellent growth potential with its unique natural and moor landscapes, the second largest inland lake in Lower Saxony and a extensive cycle path network. With the increasing demand for individual holidays and natural activities, the region could benefit from a planned increase in overnight stays by 4 percent annually by 2030 and an increase in day trip traffic by 10 percent.
In 2022, 599,420 overnight stays and 207,218 arrivals were recorded in accommodation companies in Dümmenweserland. These affected a total of 6,684 beds, including motorhomes and campsites, with an average stay of 2.9 days. The tourism-related gross turnover was 217 million euros, which underlines the economic importance of tourism for the region with tax revenue for municipalities between 3.8 and 5.8 million euros annually.
The Dümmerweserland Touristik is also committed to the goal of improving the region's website and will use nationwide measure and use media presence to win more tourists. In June, a new host directory will be published to expand the tourist offer again, followed by a new edition of the motorhome and camping brochure in the course of the year.
