A celebration for children: 170 bowls of Pho distributed on Thieng Lieng!
On June 1, 2025, the children from the hamlet of Thiêng Liềng on the island of Thanh An experienced a particularly festive Children's Day. On the occasion of Children's Day, the 130 children of the hamlet, which has a total population of 904, received free bowls of pho organized by the “10,000 bowls of delicious pho for children” initiative. This campaign was launched by the Pho Phat Tai restaurant to bring joy to children who do not often have the opportunity to eat pho, as there are no pho restaurants in the area and only some households sell hu tieu.
Mr. Nguyen Van Yen, the head of the hamlet, actively supported the initiative. A total of 170 bowls of beef and chicken pho were transported to Thiêng Liềng. The participants in the campaign traveled over 70 kilometers to the island in a “Pho Mobile”. After switching to motorboats at the Tam Thon Hiep ferry, all ingredients and the necessary equipment for preparation were transported. The local authority also helped organize a special children's day at Ngu Hanh Ba Temple.
A lively children's day
The children loved the fresh pho and expressed their joy by asking for more to share a bowl with their grandparents. This initiative also spread to Lucky Village in Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City, where hundreds of free bowls of pho were also distributed. Such programs are essential to bring special joy to children in remote areas.
The region surrounding Thanh An Island and Thiêng Liềng is well known not only by locals but also by visitors seeking exploration and adventure. Thanh An is about 60 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City and is easily accessible by motorbike. Access is via various ferries and roads, while Thiêng Liềng is approximately 70 kilometers from the city. Here tourists have the opportunity to get to know the quiet way of life of the locals, which is mainly characterized by salt production and fishing.

On Thanh An, visitors can explore nature, take walks on the dike and enjoy fresh seafood. Local food is available there at an affordable price range of 10,000 to 20,000 VND. In Thiêng Liềng, on the other hand, travelers can visit the salt fields and stay overnight with the locals or in simple public facilities, as there are no hotels. However, travelers should note that food options are limited and should bring snacks and their own food.
The free pho promotion and the relaxed island life work together to create a special atmosphere that made Children's Day in Thiêng Liềng an unforgettable experience.
