Insight into Ukraine: Gothaer Verein reports on a touching trip

The Ukrainefriends Gotha association invites you to a report on your trip to Ukraine on May 23, 2025 at 6 p.m. The lecture will take place in the community hall of the Augustinian monastery in Gotha at Jüdenstraße 23. The trip itself took place from April 8th to 13th, 2025 and took the group to the Cherkassy region of central Ukraine. Those involved had numerous encounters with people from different life situations that touched them deeply.

The trip was not only an opportunity to learn about personal stories, but should also serve as motivation for further commitment to Ukraine. Ukraine Friends Gotha has been connected to Ukraine for over 30 years and brings back images from their experiences that make the impressions of the trip visible. After the report, snacks and drinks are planned so that guests can talk to them.

Context of the situation in Ukraine

The situation in Ukraine remains tense. The military conflict, which began with Russia's attack on February 24, 2022, continues and continues to put many people at risk. Among the many military engagements is the ongoing bombardment of cities such as Odessa, which continues to the present day. There was also an airstrike on a convention center in Sumy on April 13, 2025, highlighting the ongoing threats to civilian facilities.

Also concerning are attacks on military targets, such as the repeated bombings of Ukrainian military bases and infrastructure. By 2025, numerous attacks were recorded in various regions, including Chuhuiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv. Such escalations demonstrate the urgency of humanitarian assistance and commitment to the people of Ukraine.

A look into the future

The experiences that the Ukraine Friends Gotha have gained stand in sharp contrast to the frightening reports of the ongoing fighting and destruction in their home country. The lecture on May 23 is intended not only to provide a platform for exchanging information, but also to raise awareness and support for the Ukrainian population. The initiative aims to further deepen the connections between people in Germany and Ukraine in order to work together towards a better future.
