About Alexandra Falls, Daintree National Park

Alexandra Falls is a waterfall that is over 150 meters high, which is upstream on Alexandra Creek, deep in the Daintree National Park. Although it is really one of the most majestic waterfalls in the region, there is no special or well -groomed way to achieve it.

If you absolutely want to watch the waterfall, please note that it is technically a wilderness area. I would not recommend that Cape Tribulation waterfall go, unless you are confident and experience in the Australian rainforest. My intention is not to make this waterfall known, but to share my experiences in a way that I hope that you will better prepare those who are already determined to try it out.

The entire hike follows the Alexendra Creek and you have to wade most of the route to the waterfalls. It is therefore important to plan the conditions and be well prepared.

Apart from that, most people who are used to adventure in the far north of Queensland should not have a big problem as long as they are prepared.

How do you get to the Alexandra Falls?

When I visited Alexandra Falls, there was not much information online about how to actually come here. I knew that the waterfall was somewhere upstream on the Alexandra Creek, but it was a bit confusing to get to the stream.

The Alexandra Creek access is via the Turpentine Road, about 20 minutes south of Cape Tribulation or 25 minutes north of the crossing of the Daintree River. This is only inland from Thornton Beach in "Diwan".

I went on a trip to the Heritage Lodge and Spa to ask if I could get access to the stream. However, it was clear that they didn't want someone who went through their resort to Alexandra Creek. Instead, there is only 100 meters before the Heritage Lodge and Spa a gate with signs only for private vehicles.

This is a private driveway that leads to Alexandra Creek. This is where the trip to the Alexandra Falls begins.

The Blue Pools of Cape Tribulation

Only 50 meters downstream from this stream access are the "Blue Pools" from Cape Tribulation. This is a beautiful place with an untouched, clear water of the rainforest. However, I was told that swimming in the Blue Pools is advised by the traditional owners, as this is a culturally important place of birth for indigenous women.

We made a short detour to admire this beautiful place from a distance. When we discovered it, we met some other travelers who were already swimming in the pools. In fact, during our visit we saw several groups that went to the pools. I am not someone who judges the behavior of others, but I personally did not stay long out of respect for the traditional owners of the blue pools and the Daintree. The Alexandra Falls "Hike"

Hiking route: 8.2 km back and forth
Duration: 3-4 hours back and forth
vertical meter (mostly at the end)
Medium

The Alexandra Falls Route begins at the Bach crossing at Alexandra Creek (above). The way to the waterfall follows this stream upstream for about 4 kilometers. You have to be aware that a large part of the hike will wade through the water. The rocks are quite hard and slippery, so I would definitely recommend wearing trail runners or other closed shoes.

We were pretty sure that crocodiles did not hike so far upstream. However, I can certainly not guarantee that this stream will be completely crocodile -free.

When we visited the in -season, it had rained a bit, but it was relatively dry. The stream had to be mastered over the entire path, with the lowest section only at hip height. In view of the erosion on the sides of the bank, however, it is clear that this stream can flow violently, especially in the rainy season.

The aim is to follow Alexandra Creek all the way to the waterfall. However, the stream fork in several sections, which can make it difficult to find the way. The best way to approach him is to simply follow the main stream and to avoid detours or smaller tributaries.

The hike is relatively flat for most of the hike. On the last few kilometers, however, you have to climb to the waterfall with a gentle scree climbing. This is not steep, but it can be slippery. At a section towards the end, it seemed as if the stream had been completely dry. However, when we passed this section, it was obvious that the stream must have flowed under the boulders.

What can be expected

The route up to the Alexandra Falls in the Daintree was one of my absolute favorite adventures in Cape Tribulation. At least for me that was a real foretaste of the Daintree.

Alexandra Creek is full of beautiful sections with deep, aquatic blue water holes. On the way to the waterfall we come to many, and I can say calmly that they are much more beautiful and calmer than even the popular Mason’s Waterhole and the Emmagen Waterhole on the Cape Tribulation.

There were sections where we had to go along the banks of the Bach to avoid deeper water. There were indications of a warning path that should be followed on these sections, but no markings or ligaments. Overall, the way to the waterfall is quite clear when you wade through the stream, but it is full of wild vines and waits for a while as soon as you enter the scrub.

We also noticed that there were hoses and pipes that led to the stream. That was regrettable because I am pretty sure that redirecting fresh water flows into a national park is illegal. Of course I can't guess who could be responsible for it, but it was disappointing.

Alexandra Falls-an epic insider tip in the Daintree-Regenwald

After about 4 kilometers, slowly approach the Alexandra Falls in the Daintree Rainforest. This huge waterfall has a pretty lower level with a deep swimming pool and stacked tree trunks. However, the main event is at the top of a small scree.

It is difficult to say exactly how high the Alexandra Falls are, but I would say that the cumulative case of all three top levels is more than 150 meters-really an impressive Cape tribulation waterfall!

Alexandra Falls is located on an exposed clearing and has its own flat pool underneath, in which you can cool down. The waterfall is also perfectly framed by two high -towering palm trees that almost look as if they had been planted there!

After we had relaxed and taken photos for almost an hour at the waterfall, we turned around and made our way back to the car. We managed to complete the hike in almost 4 hours, which in my opinion was at a rather leisurely pace.
