Discover luxury and history at International Museum Day!
On Sunday, May 18, 2025, the Obere Saline Museum in Bad Kissingen will open its doors for a special event as part of International Museum Day. Under the motto “Luxury, exoticism & modernity in the spa houses of Bad Kissingen”, a special exhibition is presented that gives visitors a lively insight into the sophisticated spa life of bygone times. Loud mainrhoen24 For the first time, the exhibition shows exhibits from the depots of the municipal collections that honor the region's cultural heritage.
A special highlight of the exhibition is a large-format painting by Ferdinand Max Bredt, which impressively captures the exotic atmosphere around 1900. In addition, visitors can explore luxurious interiors of historic spa, conversation and dining rooms, decorated with Art Nouveau motifs and leaded-glass winter gardens as found in the city's grand hotels and spa houses.
Supporting program of the International Museum Day
International Museum Day is announced annually by the International Museum Council ICOM and always takes place on a Sunday in Germany. This year it is being celebrated for the 48th time and the coordination is the responsibility of the German Museum Association (DMB). The aim of this initiative is to highlight the cultural and social importance of museums and to encourage visitors to discover these institutions. Special tours also await guests on International Museum Day. An overview tour entitled “Bischof – Bismarck – Colorful Things” begins at 11 a.m., which covers topics such as salt production in Bad Kissingen, the original apartment of Otto von Bismarck and artistic toys from the Rhön and the world. At 3 p.m., curator Heinrich Hacker will guide visitors through the special exhibition mentioned. A costume tour at 4 p.m. gives guests the opportunity to gain a private insight into the life of the Bismarck family with Bismarck's maid Marie.
The museum is open on this day from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is expecting numerous interested parties who would like to take the opportunity to learn more about the history and culture of the region.
