A short photo blog by Crawford’s Lookout in the Wooroonooran National Park, Far North Queensland. Contains some short details about what to expect and photos of my visit.
Crawford’s Lookout is a quick viewpoint in the Woornoonooran National Park, only a few hours south of Cairns. The viewpoint offers a look at the horseshoe bend of the North Johnston River between the rainforest trees.
In this post I would like to share some photos and a short video of my trip with you, from which I hope you inspire you to visit my favorite national park in Queensland. The wild wooroonooran.

Where is Crawford’s Lookout and how do I get here?
The often neglected Crawford’s Lookout is a quick stop at the Palmerston Highway between InnisFail and the Millaa Millaa region in the Tablelands.
Although it is quite a journey from Cairns at about 111 kilometers (1.5 hours), I would like to assure you that a trip to this part of the Wet Tropics region belonging to the World Natural Heritage is 100 % worthwhile!
I attached the exact position of the viewpoint below so that you can find it easier. You will find that the viewpoint directly in front of the hiking trails Tchupala Falls and Wallicher Falls as well as the very impressive Nandroya Falls is only a little further away.

The North Johnston Lookout Track
Hiking route: back and forth
Duration: 45 minutes-1 hour
vertical meter as a whole, mostly on the way back
difficulty: Simple
Unfortunately, from the Crawford’s Lookout you can only take a little look at the high -towering gorges of North Johnston River Horseshoe Bend. However, if you take the adjacent hiking trail, you get a much better viewpoint.
This is a short hike with a little climb, mainly on the way back. However, I would say that it is definitely worth it and you should be able to take the short walk in less than an hour.
There is also the possibility to make a detour to the bottom of the Johnston River. This is apparently a bit steeper, but we were more than satisfied with the view of the North Johnston Lookout.
