Freiburg Baroque Orchestra: A musical rendezvous of the centuries!

On July 14, 2025, the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra will celebrate a remarkable event: For 25 years now, the ensemble has been traveling regularly to concerts in the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Berlin Philharmonic. In this anniversary year, the orchestra is dedicating itself to the musical route that led from southwest Germany to Berlin in the 18th century. Particular attention is paid to the works of composers who worked along this route.

For the third subscription concert of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, the focus is on the music of the 18th century. The program includes both well-known classics and rarely played rarities. Selected works come from renowned composers such as Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, Johann Christoph Pez, Johann Sigismund Kusser, Johann Ludwig Bach, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Musical stopovers

The concerts are not only a treat for the ears, but also an acoustic journey of discovery. The musical stops along the route are equally fascinating:

  • Rastatt: Ouvertüre von Johann Caspar Ferdinand Fischer
  • Stuttgart: Concerto Pastorale von Christoph Pez
  • Ansbach: 1. Ouvertüre in g-Moll von Johann Sigismund Kusser
  • Meiningen: 2. Brandenburgisches Konzert von Johann Ludwig Bach
  • Letzte Etappe: Konzert für zwei Violinen von Georg Philipp Telemann und das 2. Brandenburgische Konzert von Johann Sebastian Bach

The different regions had a strong influence on the musical expression of the era. It can be seen that the southwest was heavily influenced by Lully, while central Germany had Italian influences. Individualistic styles emerged in the northeast, which were largely influenced by Bach and Telemann.

The concert program

The planned concert program includes the following works:

  • Johann Caspar Fischer: Suite in d-Moll op. 1.4 aus Le Journal de printemps
  • Johann Christian Pez: Concerto Pastorale F-Dur
  • Johann Sigismund Kusser: Ouverture Nr. 1 g-Moll aus Apollon enjoué
  • Johann Ludwig Bach: Ouverture G-Dur
  • Georg Philipp Telemann: Doppelkonzert a-Moll TWV 52:a2
  • Johann Sebastian Bach: Brandenburgisches Konzert Nr. 2 F-Dur BWV 1047

The ensemble is made up of talented musicians, including Daniela Lieb (flute), Ann-Kathrin Brüggemann (oboe) and Judith von der Goltz (violin). In addition, Gottfried von der Goltz takes over the direction of the orchestra.

For those interested, a free introductory lecture will be offered at 7:15 p.m. in the foyer (1st floor). Ticket prices vary depending on seat category: 55 (I), 50 (II), 45 (III), 35 (IV), 25 (V).
