A short but scenic hike awaits, leading to several waterfall tiers, each an excellent place to swim and cool off. In this guide, I will detail how to get to Garud Chatti waterfall from Rishikesh and how to find the two tiers of waterfalls along the way.
How to get to Garud Chatti Rishikesh waterfall?
The Garud Chatti waterfall is located near the Neelkanth Bridge in the forest on the southern bank of the Ganges. You will find the starting point of the trail to Garud Chatti Falls directly opposite the Garud Chatti Temple from which the waterfall takes its name.
To get to Garud Chatti waterfall from Rishikesh, it is about 3.5 km or 45 minutes walk from Laxman Jhula bridge in Tapovan. It is also possible to rent a motorbike from many shops in Tapovan or pay a rickshaw driver to take you to the Garud Chatti Temple.
The trailhead is a little noticeable at first, but there are usually a few stalls nearby as well as a small sign pointing the way to the waterfall. Just continue walking past the temple to the next bend where you can clearly see the trailhead.

Garud Chatti waterfall hike
The path to Garud Chatti waterfall is quite easy to navigate but a bit steep in places. My advice is to just follow the beaten path that leads to the falls. It takes about 25-30 minutes to reach the main tier of the waterfall and only about 5-10 minutes upstream to the other tiers.
Although it is very difficult to get lost, I have pinned below the exact GPS locations of the two main stages that I visited during my trip to Garud Chatti waterfall from Rishikesh.
I was also told that wild elephants inhabit the forests around Rishikesh. I'm not sure how true this is, or if so, how often the elephants would cross these tracks. However, it's probably a safe bet to keep your eyes open just in case.

What to Expect at Garud Chatti Waterfall in Rishikesh
A trek to Garud Chatti waterfall from Rishikesh is a great way to spend a day exploring the surrounding forests. Below I have written a little about what to expect at the two main waterfalls at Garud Chatti Falls as well as the nearby limestone caves.
It is possible to continue hiking past the second stage to a total of 7 different waterfalls along the way. However, the upper falls are much less impressive. If you enjoy the hike and want to continue, I would recommend it. However, don't expect better waterfalls upstream.

Stage 1:
The main tier of Garud Chatti Waterfall is a cascading waterfall hidden around a bend in the limestone cliff. There's a shallow, waist-deep freshwater pool here, perfect for a quick dip.
This waterfall is about 6-7 m high, with a solid tower stream that springs out from the center of the waterfall as the stream flows around the bend.
This stage of the Garud Chatti waterfall is usually the most visited. So if it's too crowded I would recommend continuing along the beaten path to the left to the upper steps.

Limestone caves
Just above the first waterfall is a section of wide limestone caves that you can explore. These caves aren't exactly deep, but are still a nice pit stop for the hike.

Rank 2:
The second level of Garud Chatti waterfall is the best in my opinion. I say this because it is usually remote and gets more sunlight in the afternoon.
Although this step is smaller than the main waterfall, it still has a similarly deep swimming hole at its base - perfect for a quick swim and a relaxing stop.

Where to stay in Rishikesh
After spending a few weeks relaxing and experiencing all the epic things to do and see in Rishikesh, I ended up staying in a few different hotels and hostels. The most important thing to pay attention to in Rishikesh is the location.
Many backpackers including me recommend staying in the Tapovan area. There are so many things to do in Tapovan as this is the main tourist area in Rishikesh. It doesn't matter if you live on the south or north side as everything is within walking distance.
My favorite hostel in Rishikesh: Live Free Hostel After checking out a few hostels, Live Free definitely had the best atmosphere. In addition to a courtyard and comfortable rooms, there is also a large meeting point on the ground floor where communal cooking activities and movie nights take place. There's also free morning yoga on the rooftop. Beds are also incredibly cheap, at less than $4 per night! However, when I booked, for some reason it was cheaper on Booking.com than Hostelworld for this hostel.

Best Budget Private Room: Hotel YogIf you prefer to relax alone or as a couple, Hotel Yog is one of the best budget hotels in the Tapovan area. The rooms are considered budget-friendly, but are slightly more expensive than nearby hostels. But for only about $20 a night for spacious rooms with mountain views, a continental breakfast, and a rooftop terrace, you really can't go wrong.

Top-Rated Yoga Resort: Rudram Hotel Yoga and Ayurvedic Retreat Want to do a full range of yoga in Rishikesh but still stay in the Tapovan area? This place offers yoga classes and free yoga classes by the Ganges. The rooms are super comfortable and have air conditioning and mountain views.
