Guide Falls Tasmania - everything you need to know

Everything you need to know to visit one of the most underestimated waterfalls of Tasmania; Leader falls. Contains how you come here, what awaits you, and photos that I hope you will inspire your visit.

When I set off in the short five months of exploring so many epic hikes and waterfalls as possible in Tasmania, I really didn't expect it to be so many. To be honest, I was really and I am still overwhelmed by how many epic waterfalls are in Tassie.

This is a clear Highlight in the northern region. Guide Falls is a spectacular waterfall near Burnie. It is also super accessible and does not require a long hike to get there.

Find out how to get to Guide Falls Burnie, what to expect after your arrival and look at photos of my trip.

Guide if-where is that?

GUIDE Falls is located in the "Guide Falls Reserve", only 17.1 kilometers south of Burnie in northern Tasmania. The actual waterfall is located at the end of a very short way back, which is accessible to everyone. The upper level of the waterfalls is accessible to wheelchair users.

How do I get here

To get to the Guide Falls, you need your own car because there is no public transport. The easiest way to navigate here is to insert the Google Maps-PIN above, which leads you to the parking lot on the reserve.

Otherwise, simply follow the Ridgley Highway south of Burnie for the directions until you reach the city of Ridgley. Immediately after the city, turn right onto the W Ridgley Road and follow it until you see signs to the reserve. The junction to the waterfall car park is located on the left just before the bridge over the Guide River.

Guide Falls-What to expect

When arriving in the Guide Falls, you will find a large parking space directly on the Guide River. Here the municipality also built a rest area and a sanitary building. The short path follows the Guide River about 200 meters upstream before it opens up to the main waterfall.

Although there is not a lot of information online, I would estimate the height at about 25 meters. However, it is the width and the sheer power of this simply immersed beauty that makes it really spectacular. Even if you may not see it at the foot of the waterfalls, there is a second drop a little further up from the main waterfall.

To be honest, I was pretty surprised at how epic this waterfall was. The arable land not really matched the ambience of the Powerfall waterfall, but after we had spent a good 30 minutes to take photos and relax at the waterfalls, we had completely forgotten where we were.

As soon as you have admired the view from below, go up the short stairs to get a fantastic viewpoint on the waterfall from above. There is also a parking space up here and a large meadow.
