Young people pitch in: Successful 48-hour campaign in Bautzen!

Last weekend, this year's 48-hour campaign took place in the Bautzen district, in which numerous young people actively took part. A total of 65 youth groups took part, consisting of members of youth clubs, youth fire departments and sports communities and clubs. Participants engaged in various activities, including building pallet sofas and raised beds, trash collection, spring cleaning and playground beautification. This initiative shows the high level of commitment and community spirit of the region's youth.

The next 48-hour promotion, which will take place in 2024, is a special event as it celebrates its 20th anniversary. However, there is currently a lack of funding of 2,000 euros to hold this event. This concern highlights the ongoing need for financial support for youth projects in Bautzen.

Family history and cultural heritage

Among the many events of the weekend were visits from descendants of the Jewish Altmann family in Bautzen. They came to explore their family history more closely. Adolf Wolf Altmann played a significant role in the city's Jewish life and was a co-founder of the Jewish cemetery. A collection of photos and documents about the Altmann family has been put together in the city museum, honoring their important legacy.

The police are turning to the public on another current issue: They are looking for those affected by a suspected rip-off at the parking lot on Muskauer Strasse in Bautzen. Drivers received payment requests from the company “Parkcontrol24” indicating allegedly unauthorized parking. The police have already received several reports and are calling on other affected people to come forward and share their experiences.

Tragic events and investigation

The police investigation was also burdened by the tragic discovery of a 21-year-old woman in the Laußnitzer Heide. The young woman, who lived in Dresden and had taken part in illegal techno parties, was found dead. A 16-year-old near the site was arrested and is suspected of manslaughter. This incident has renewed concerns about security in the region.

In addition, the Elstra city administration is planning a concept to increase the tourist attractiveness of the region around the Schwarzenberg. The current focus is on activities such as hiking, biking and skiing. However, it will be examined whether the existing infrastructure meets the requirements and where improvements are necessary.
