Cruise cancellations in the Middle East: The canceled dream trip!

There is an increasing number of cancellations in the cruise sector, which brings unpleasant surprises for many travelers. How World reported, passengers will have to expect various cancellations in the 2025/2026 season, particularly at TUI Cruises and Aida Cruises, which have canceled several tours in the Middle East. The reasons for these cancellations are varied, including safety concerns, technical problems and ship stays in the shipyard.

Full charter of cruise ships is increasingly being mentioned as a more common reason for cancellation. Companies are booking ships for exclusive events, which can affect early booked trips. A current example is the fitness provider Hyrox, which reserved the “Mein Schiff 4” for an event even though another cruise had already been sold for the same period. In such cases, affected travelers will receive a standard letter canceling their booking.

Current cancellations and their background

The security situation in the Eastern Mediterranean is particularly putting pressure on the cruise industry. How Evening paper highlights, TUI Cruises has canceled several trans trips from the “Mein Schiff” fleet in autumn 2025. The affected trips include:

  • „Mein Schiff 4“: 1. Oktober bis 3. November 2025
  • „Mein Schiff 5“: 7. November bis 13. Dezember 2025
  • „Mein Schiff 6“: 19. Oktober bis 26. November 2025

Travelers affected by these cancellations will receive a free cancellation along with a 10% travel credit on future bookings. AIDA Cruises has also canceled trips through the Red Sea and Suez Canal for 2025/26 due to similar safety concerns.

Alternatives and compensation

Cruise lines typically offer refunds and alternative booking options if cruises are canceled. At TUI Cruises, the deposit is converted into a virtual “onboard credit” for affected travelers, which means that the refund must be actively requested. Travelers have the opportunity to receive a 10% discount on a new booking, although this only applies to the deposit.

However, many affected customers express their dissatisfaction in online forums because insurance policies that have been booked do not cover the costs once they are active. Technical problems and weather conditions continue to go hand in hand with itinerary changes, further complicating the situation.

The cruise industry is under pressure and must adapt quickly to changing conditions. The uncertainties are reflected in the recurring cancellations and arouse fears among travelers about their bookings. Companies always have to resort to solutions to maintain customer satisfaction.
