Lüdinghausen: Monja Meyer starts an adventure trip to Malawi!

An exciting adventure awaits Monja Meyer from Lüdinghausen in the summer of 2025. On August 25, she begins a year-long journey to Malawi, East Africa. This decision follows her successful completion of her Abitur at St. Antonius High School. With a distance of around 11,500 kilometers to her destination, this is not only a geographical challenge, but also a personal one that she tackles with great enthusiasm.

The trip is supported by the Kolping JGD (youth community service) and the “Weltwärts” project. These programs offer young people the opportunity to support social and ecological projects worldwide. Monja will not only get to know the country and culture, but will also actively contribute to improving the living conditions of the local people.

Insights into another world

Along with participating in various projects, Monja will have the opportunity to share everyday life with locals. This type of travel allows deeper insights into Malawi's culture - a contrast to conventional package tourism. Participants in these programs often report a particular intensity of their experiences.

During her stay, Monja will also have the opportunity to learn more about local issues, concerns and traditions. Supporting charitable projects not only promotes an attitude of solidarity, but also a better understanding of the challenges that the people of Malawi face. It is to be expected that her experience on site may be different than she may have previously imagined.

Through the Kolping JGD initiative, Monja will come into contact with the different facets of Malawian culture, making her trip a valuable learning experience. The twelve months will certainly broaden both personal and social perspectives.
