Drivers on the A93 towards Regensburg will have to prepare for significant restrictions from May 23, 2025. How tz.de reported, construction work to renew the road between Regensburg and Ingolstadt is beginning. These measures are necessary to repair the damage to the concrete pavement that has become visible through constant repairs. The construction work is part of a comprehensive renovation plan that will take several months.
From May 23, 2025, there will be disruptions at the Bad Abbach junction in the direction of Regensburg. Drivers coming from the direction of Munich on the A93 are forced to continue to the Regensburg-Süd junction and then follow the emergency diversion via the B16. This diversion will be maintained until construction work is complete.
Details about the construction work
From the end of June 2025, the entrance to the Pentling fuel and rest area in the direction of Regensburg will also be closed until mid-October 2025. The exit from Munich will also not be available until the beginning of August 2025. The planned measures include replacing the old concrete roadways and renewing the road substructure to a depth of around 1.5 meters. This work is necessary to ensure road safety and prevent future damage.
In addition, new construction work on the eastern carriageway between the Saalhaupt triangle and the Regensburg junction began in April 2025. This work is expected to last until mid-December 2025. As part of this new construction work, the drainage systems will also be renewed in order to improve the road infrastructure. Drivers have to prepare for a time window in which only three lanes will be available.
Traffic restrictions and diversions
The construction-related restrictions on the A93 will cause significant traffic disruptions from mid-March 2025. Restrictions are expected, particularly at the Saalhaupt triangle and the Regensburg Süd junction, while the old concrete roadway is being demolished and an asphalt roadway is being built. This also includes further restrictions at the Regensburg motorway junction until mid-May 2025. Road users can expect traffic jams in the direction of Regensburg as well as restricted crossings from the B15 to the A93 and vice versa.
Road users are asked to consider alternative means of transport and to stay on the motorway during construction to avoid additional traffic on the diversion routes. Since there is no space for a fourth lane due to the narrow area in the work area, drivers should be prepared for a longer travel time.
