New saddle for cyclists: Selle Italia SLR Boost in the test!
In spring 2025, Selle Italia introduced the new “White Range”, which includes several road bike saddles, including models such as Flite Boost, SLR Boost, Novus Boost Evo as well as a new SLR Boost version with a 3D printed cover. All saddles are available in an elegant white. The SLR Boost, especially in the S3 size, has been tested over several thousand kilometers and impresses with a weight of only 124 grams for the 130 millimeter version. This lightweight design is supported by high-quality workmanship.
The saddle cover of the SLR Boost is made of robust Fibra-Tek microfibers that show no signs of wear even after several months. The shell is made from a combination of carbon fiber and nylon polymer, which ensures both robustness and torsional rigidity. The highly oval carbon frame measuring 7×9 millimeters offers a wide range of settings for individual adaptation to the bike.
Comfort and ergonomics
A standout feature of the SLR Boost is the short nose, which promotes effective power transmission and high pedaling efficiency, especially when riding uphill. In addition, the long center recess, known as “superflow”, ensures a high level of driving comfort as it relieves pressure on the dam. Superflow technology ensures a flexible response to uneven surfaces and absorbs shocks, making the saddle comfortable even on long rides.
The padding is thin and hard, especially around the nose, but is surprisingly comfortable. Even at high intensities there are no problems with seating, which makes the saddle particularly ideal for ambitious cyclists. With a price of 314.90 euros, this saddle is classified as rather expensive, but meets the target group's requirements for a comfortable, lightweight saddle that is suitable for long distances.
Choose the right size
The choice of saddle size plays a crucial role in comfort. Selle Italia offers the SLR Boost in S and L widths. The letter S indicates a narrower version, suitable for people with an intertrochanteric distance less than 120 mm, while L indicates a larger distance. Important factors in determining the appropriate saddle width are the level of ischial support, ideally determined by a visit to the doctor or a bike measurement. Missing measurements can easily be bridged with advice from the idmatch point.
Additionally, numbers 1, 2 and 3 indicate the presence or absence of a cutout in the saddle, with size 3 recommended for individuals who have excellent pelvic rotation. For less flexible riders, it is advised to move in descending order to size 1, which has no cutout, while size 2 offers a smaller cutout and size 3 offers a larger (“superflow”).
In summary, the SLR Boost from Selle Italia is a promising road bike saddle that impresses with its construction, comfort and adjustment options. The combination of state-of-the-art technology and attractive design makes it a worthwhile investment for enthusiastic cyclists.
