Editor-in-chief becomes a cyclist: 500 km on the Weser route!

On September 6, 2025, an author will swap the executive chair in the office for a bicycle saddle for two weeks. This reports linuxnews.de, whereby the planned route includes an exciting journey from the source of the Werra to its mouth in the Weser and then on to Bremen. During his absence, colleagues will prepare the latest news so that readers continue to be informed.

The route over the Werra and Weser is known not only for its scenic wealth, but also for the numerous cultural highlights. The Weser cycle path stretches over around 500 km from Hann. Münden to the North Sea and offers cyclists the opportunity to discover many places worth seeing.

The beauty of the route

On the Oberweser, the route usually runs very close to the water. It leads through picturesque towns and regions such as Hann. Münden, Reinhardswald, Solling, Bad Karlshafen, Höxter and the world-famous city of Hameln, which is famous for its historic old town and half-timbered houses. Romantic palaces and castles as well as buildings in the Weser Renaissance style from the 16th century are located along the route and invite you to visit them.

In the Middle Weser region between Minden and Bremen, the landscape is characterized by marshlands and agricultural structures. The route leads through the scenic Weserbergland and takes cyclists to one of the largest cities on the Weser: Bremen, which is reached after around 350 km.

Cycling to the North Sea

After Bremen, the cycle route continues northwards under the protection of the dikes. In the area between Bremen and the North Sea, lowlands and raised moors characterize the area. Cyclists have the choice between two variants of the route, one leading to Nordenham through coastal seaside resorts in Butjadingen and the other along the seaside town of Bremerhaven to Cuxhaven.

The Weser itself arises from the union of the rivers Werra and Fulda, which flow into Hann. Münden flow together. The Weser crosses several federal states, including Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Bremen, before flowing into the North Sea near Bremerhaven. The different sections of the Weser are distinguished: the Upper Weser, the Middle Weser and the Lower Weser, with the breakthrough valley of the Porta Westfalica between the Weser Mountains and the Wiehengebirge being particularly impressive.

The Weser cycle path is not only a sporting challenge, but also a journey of discovery through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany. The combination of nature, history and culture will undoubtedly provide the cyclist with many new impressions and memories.
