Unique overnight stay: Celebrate on the Kunstkudder in Stade!

In the picturesque Hanseatic haven of Stade, the “Kunstkudder” is enjoying increasing popularity as a unique place to stay overnight. This converted historic ship, the oldest surviving Hamburg Alsterschute from 1904, offers a fascinating combination of art, culture and maritime flair. Bianka and Thomas Gunter celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on the Kunstkudder and described the bunk as “extremely comfortable”. The couple from Bremerhaven booked a three-night stay.

The Kunstkudder not only offers intimate accommodation for travelers, but also a glimpse into the history and culture of the region. It is located in the disused historic Hanseatic port, right next to the old town of Stade, and was formerly an 18 meter long barge with a flat bottom. After an extensive restoration that cost 6,000 euros, the boat was moved to its new location in November. The idea for renting came about after the Corona pandemic and was supported by grants from a fund to revitalize inner cities in Lower Saxony.

Unique living concept and furnishings

The Kunstkudder offers its guests a well-equipped kitchen, a maritime-style living room and a bunk, which is accessible via a narrow staircase and has two large windows offering a view of the sky. Loud sueddeutsche.de The boat also has a small hallway with a wardrobe, a bathroom and a living area with a long bar, couch and dining table, which can be converted into a second bedroom at night.

A beach chair on the roof terrace invites you to relax. The overnight cost is 120 euros per night for up to four people, with a minimum stay of two nights required. Easy bookings are possible via the Stader Tourismus-Gesellschaft, which also offers further information about the area.

Creative support and utilization

The Kunstkudder is not only a retreat for tourists, but also a space for creativity. Artists have the opportunity to live on the boat for two months per year, supported by a scholarship. The next application deadline for creative ideas is the end of May. The demand is enormous: the boat is fully booked every weekend, although there are still free dates available in the summer. The environmentally friendly design, which consists of 80 percent paper and comes from the Berlin artist duo 44flavours, was positively praised by many guests.

With its unique location and the combination of art and maritime lifestyle, the Kunstkudder is a refreshing new addition to Lower Saxony. The ambience of the historic old town and the proximity to sights, restaurants and cafés make the stay a special experience - not just for couples and small groups of people who like to travel, but for everyone who is looking for an extraordinary place.
