How to get to Patna Waterfall Rishikesh?

Patna Waterfall is located about 5 km from Laxman Jhula Bridge in Rishikesh in the picturesque neighboring village of Patna.

To get here, you can either rent a motorbike from one of the many shops in the Tapovan area or walk a little over an hour on Neelkanth Temple Road on the south side of the Ganges.

The waterfall trail is just off this main road, just after Garud Chatti Falls. At the starting point you will also find some stalls selling snacks and chai. There are no signs indicating the start of the Patna Waterfall trek, but you will see it just opposite the “Sidh Bali Temple”. Neelkanth Temple” as pinned on Google Maps.

There is no fee to visit Patna Waterfall.

I have marked the exact location of the waterfall on the map below to make it easier for you to find it.

Trekking to Patna Waterfall

Hiking distance: 3 km back
Duration: 2 hours with time at the waterfall
Difficulty: Easy

Once you arrive at the starting point next to the stalls on Neelkanth Temple Road, a short but scenic 1.5 km trail awaits you through the Rajaji Forest to Patna Falls.

This route is a little steep, but shouldn't be too difficult at all for most people with a reasonable level of fitness.

After a short climb on a wide, obvious path through the picturesque forest, you reach Patna Waterfall, a tall limestone cliff nestled in the jungle.

Tip: Consider this full-day Rishikesh sightseeing tour for under $35!

What to expect

The waterfall is quite high but offers little in the way of a solid flow. However, the gentle lapping of fresh water against the limestone wall is a picturesque place to relax.

There is a small, shallow pool just below the waterfall where you can enjoy a natural shower on a warm day.

I was told that Patna waterfall can dry up completely during the summer months. Conversely, this waterfall pours onto the track during the monsoon season, making access muddy and difficult.

Patna Waterfall is by no means the most impressive waterfall in Rishikesh. However, I still ranked this as one of the best short hikes and trips from Rishikesh.

There are also some small limestone caves nearby that you can explore.

Where to stay in Rishikesh

After spending a few weeks relaxing and experiencing all the epic things to do and see in Rishikesh, I ended up staying in a few different hotels and hostels. The most important thing to pay attention to in Rishikesh is the location.

Many backpackers including me recommend staying in the Tapovan area. There are so many things to do in Tapovan as this is the main tourist area in Rishikesh. It doesn't matter if you live on the south or north side as everything is within walking distance.

My favorite hostel in Rishikesh: Live Free Hostel After checking out a few hostels, Live Free definitely had the best atmosphere. In addition to a courtyard and comfortable rooms, there is also a large meeting point on the ground floor where communal cooking activities and movie nights take place. There's also free morning yoga on the rooftop. Beds are also incredibly cheap, at less than $4 per night! However, when I booked, for some reason it was cheaper on Booking.com than Hostelworld for this hostel.

Best Budget Private Room: Hotel YogIf you prefer to relax alone or as a couple, Hotel Yog is one of the best budget hotels in the Tapovan area. The rooms are considered budget-friendly, but are slightly more expensive than nearby hostels. But for only about $20 a night for spacious rooms with mountain views, a continental breakfast, and a rooftop terrace, you really can't go wrong.

Top-Rated Yoga Resort: Rudram Hotel Yoga and Ayurvedic Retreat Want to do a full range of yoga in Rishikesh but still stay in the Tapovan area? This place offers yoga classes and free yoga classes by the Ganges. The rooms are super comfortable and have air conditioning and mountain views.
