Future of downtown Hachenburg: Workshop shows new perspectives!
The first workshop for the further development of the city center took place on April 23, 2025 in Hachenburg. Over 30 participants, including representatives from trade, trade, catering, service as well as members of the city administration and active citizens, were present. The aim of the workshop was to develop a vision for the future of the city center and to make a change of perspective. Various groups of people such as students, young families and seniors should be included in order to develop how they will experience the city center. The event was accompanied by the "Stadt+Handel" agency, which now evaluates the knowledge gathered.Mayor Stefan Leukel praised the importance of the common concept development and emphasized that the process is geared towards long -term participation and quality. The results of the workshop include the identification of challenges and the development of practical approaches to strengthen the city center. The next workshop should concretize the vision and design a catalog of measures to sustainably strengthen the city center.
long -term planning and measures
The project for realigning and strengthening the city center of Hachen has been running since the end of last year and is funded by the state model project "inner city impulses". In parallel to the workshops, expert interviews with inner city actors also take place in order to determine an inventory of the current situation and the potential for future measures. Mayor Leukel emphasized how important this analysis is for the common further development. Due to the close exchange with the owners, the city is actively involved in reducing vacancies. Four shops are currently empty in the city center, but one of them has been rented out and renovation work on another is being planned.
The city of Hachenburg also plans to include further participation formats, including a broad citizens' survey, in order to include as many votes as possible in the process. The exchange channels about the press and social media are also established to continuously inform the citizens. One goal is to create a vacancy management concept with concrete measures to make the city center alive and attractive.
The next water play festival, which was supported by state funds last year, is already certain and is celebrated on August 15. With the combination of events and workshops, it is important to the city to actively involve the residents in the development of the city center and to revive the districts through innovative concepts. The entire process should be completed by the end of the year, and the city of Hachenburg thanks the state of Rhineland-Palatinate for the support and encourages all citizens to participate.
