On June 21st and 22nd, 2025, an exciting workshop for all craft enthusiasts will take place at the Luisenhütte in Wocklum. The planned course offers an introduction to traditional blacksmithing techniques and is particularly aimed at adults who want to learn basic blacksmithing skills. During the two days, participants have the opportunity to become familiar with fire welding and forging packages from steels of different hardnesses.
What is particularly noteworthy is that the work is done with a hard coal fire in self-built ovens. For example, this creates a blade blank made of Damascus steel, which is known for its exceptional hardness and elasticity. No previous knowledge is required, but perseverance is required to overcome the challenges of forging. The workshops run for six hours on both days and start at 11 a.m.
Costs and registration
Participation in this interesting workshop costs 150 euros, which already includes the material costs. Registrations are possible via the website www.maerkisches-sauerland.com. In addition, another workshop for participants aged 18 and over will be offered on September 27th and 28th. More options for forging
An additional blacksmithing course will take place on August 29th and 30th at the Luisenhütte in Balve-Wocklum. This course is aimed at both beginners and advanced users and promises an exciting learning experience in the making of steel objects, including knives.
The program includes fire welding, which is practiced in a traditional blacksmith's forge. Participants also learn how to file and grind their workpieces. The course is open to both adults and young people aged 16 and over and takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is 95 euros per participant, including material costs.
