Protection of the seas: Nice discusses the future of the coral reefs!

Nizza, Frankreich - The UN Ocean Conference 2025 in Nice focused on June 12, 2025, the urgent need for sea protection. Under the motto "Acceleration of the measures and mobilization of all actors for the protection and sustainable use of the oceans", the importance of international cooperation on the preservation of Marine ecosystems was emphasized. The MSC Foundation presented pioneering initiatives for maritime education and tourism to strengthen coral protection. This reports Schiffe-und-kreuzfahrten.de .

A central concern of the conference was to promote cross -sectoral partnerships. These initiatives aim to create sustainable added value for reefs and coastal communities. As part of two interactive sessions in the ICRI #forcoral Pavilion, eight high -ranking speakers appeared to discuss the challenges and opportunities in marine protection.

focus on coral reefs and education

A highlight of the conference was the Super Coral Reefs programs that are carried out on Ocean Cay, Bahamas. Professor David Smith pointed out that courageous initiatives are necessary to protect the habitats of the coral reefs. Dr. Raveenia Roberts-Hanna emphasized the importance of practical training offers for students to train future managers in the field of marine protection.

The MAREVIVO educational programs reach over 1,000 students in several countries every year, which underlines the role of education in sustainable marine protection. Daniela Picco from the MSC Foundation explained the connection between renaturation, science and education. The desire for joint efforts was also supported by Tom Dallison, who emphasized the urgency of the protection of the coral reefs.

global challenges in the coral triangle

The challenges for marine ecosystems are obvious. The coral dining triangle, as a global epicenter of Mariner biodiversity, is very endangered by overfishing, destruction of the lives, initiation of waste and climate change. According to giz.de measures are urgently necessary to increase the resilience of the ecosystems.

The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) initiated by the six countries of the coral triangle pursues a comprehensive approach for the protection of biodiversity there. Important sea areas such as the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape and the Bismarck Solomon Seascape are the focus of these efforts.

In order to effectively protect the habitats, governments strive for close cooperation to spread successful solutions and to develop common strategies to preserve biological diversity and ecosystem services.

The UN Ocean Conference 2025 shows how important it is to promote innovative approaches and international cooperation. The protection of our oceans remains a global responsibility that needs to be actively designed.
