Schwäbisch Gmünd: AI apps in the test – discover the best tips!
The city of Schwäbisch Gmünd recently tested the possibilities and limits of modern AI apps for travel planning as part of a test. The two AI models ChatGPT and Le Chat were put through their paces. According to the findings of Gmünder daily post ChatGPT takes the opportunity to list numerous recommended attractions in the city.
The highlights of ChatGPT include a stroll through the old town and a city tour where visitors can admire the six historic city towers. A visit to the impressive cathedral, an outstanding example of Gothic architecture, is also recommended. A relaxed stroll around the city garden and the rococo palace as well as a hike to Hohenrechberg Castle are also on the list. For the perfect start to the day, breakfast in one of the many cozy cafés is suggested, although no specific locations are mentioned.
Criticism of Le Chat
In comparison, Le Chat, developed by Mistral AI in Paris, offers a less compelling service. The recommendations include outdated or even fictional sights such as the “Kayser Silverware Factory” and the “Kunsthalle”, which do not exist in Gmünd. Culinary suggestions such as “Café Extrablatt” or “Waldgasthof Hardt” also turn out to be wrong, as these cafés and restaurants are unknown in the city.
ChatGPT responds to the demand for the most famous Schwäbisch Gmünder with a list of fictional people or those who were not born in Gmünd. Le Chat, on the other hand, names Seyma, the winner of the RTL dating show “The Bachelors” from 2025, as the best-known personality.
Enjoy Swabian cuisine
However, a visit to Schwäbisch Gmünd would not be complete without sampling the local gastronomy. Swabian cuisine is particularly known for its homemade spaetzle, which is made from eggs, flour, water and salt. This delicious pasta is prepared in a variety of ways — either pressed through a spaetzle press, shaved, or scraped from a board into boiling water. They are often served with sauerkraut as Krautspätzle or with cheese and onions as Kässpätzle.
Spaetzle goes excellently with onion roast, roast veal and pork as well as game dishes such as deer or hare. Cranberries and a cream sauce with mushrooms complement many dishes. Maultaschen, a traditional Swabian dish, are also very popular. These pasta pockets hide meat and are often served in broth or butter with onions. The original filling consists of finely chopped meat and spinach.
Visitors should also try the Swabian potato salad, which is made from boiled, sliced potatoes with onions and vinegar. A snack consisting of various types of sausage and meat is also part of the culinary tradition, accompanied by pretzels and mustard. For those with a sweet tooth, there are delicacies such as steamed dumplings, which are served with baked fruit or vanilla sauce.
Schwäbisch Gmünd not only offers historical and cultural attractions, but also rich and delicious cuisine that makes the visit unforgettable.
