Pure excitement: Elbe Teeny Cup thrills in strong winds in Wedel!
The Elbe Teeny Cup of the Wedel-Schulau Sailing Club took place on July 12, 2025. This traditional competition was held in the picturesque Lido Bay in Schulau and attracted a total of 13 crews in the “Teeny” dinghy class, which consisted of 26 committed sailors. Parallel to the city of Wedel's harbor festival, this event offered an exciting spectacle for both participants and spectators.
The betting conditions were challenging. While the first day of competition featured strong winds and five races, Sunday was more modest with only two races in moderate winds. In a total of seven races, the overall winner was chosen, which was Max Hümme and Magnus Decius from the Malente-Gremsmühlen sailing club.
The teen in focus
The Teeny, a two-handed dinghy developed specifically for children and young people, has its origins in the 1980s and was introduced by the German Sailing Association. The Wedel-Schulau sailing club (SVWS) has a large fleet of teens. The aim of this event is to enable young sailors to participate in a regatta in their local training area, which is impressively demonstrated by the high number of participants in recent years.
The participants in the Elbe Teeny Cup mostly come from friendly clubs in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein. The competition area, a tidal area on the Elbe, has its own charm, especially when cruise ships occasionally pass the regatta course. Accommodation for guests is also provided on the club premises, making the competition a full experience for everyone involved.
After the competition
After the exciting races, sausages and soft drinks are a welcome refreshment for the hungry sailors and spectators. This sociable atmosphere surrounding the Elbe Teeny Cup is just as important a part of the event as the sporting successes. Anyone interested can find current information about this event on the registration platform manage2sail.com.
The Elbe Teeny Cup is not only shaping up to be an exciting sporting event, but the event also contributes to promoting young sailors in the region. Further information about the event can be found in the reports from the Wedel-Schulau sailing club wedel.de and on the SVWS website at svws.de to find.
