Star of the Seas: Successful sea trials before premiere in August!

The first sea trialsStar of the Seaswas successfully completed. The new cruise ship that for Royal Caribbean International is being manufactured, returned to the shipyard in Turku in the early morning of May 27, 2025. The test drives, which began on May 19, 2025, lasted a total of eight days and included a variety of demanding maneuvers.

The sea trials are a crucial step in the construction of the ship to test the navigation and technical systems under real conditions. On board were both shipyard employees and members of the future crew, who were accompanied by experts from the shipyard and the shipping company. The trial ideas exceeded the originally planned eleven days and were successfully completed faster than expected. The intensive stress tests also included driving at maximum speed followed by abrupt stops.

Technical details and equipment

TheStar of the Seaswill be one of the largest cruise ships in the world, weighing approximately 248,663 tons and measuring nearly 1,200 feet in length, along with the one also under constructionIcon of the Seas. The ship can accommodate up to 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members and has 20 decks and eight themed areas.

Highlights on board include the largest water park at sea with six water slides and over 40 different dining and entertainment options. Starting August 20, 2025, the ship will set sail on its first cruise with guests from Port Canaveral. A three-day first cruise and two four-day preview cruises are also planned for the first trips.

Prospects for delivery

The vessel's final work and equipment is still pending before final delivery is scheduled for summer 2025. The official maiden flight is scheduled for August 31, 2025Star of the Seaswill then offer 7-night cruises to Caribbean destinations including the Bahamas, Mexico, St. Maarten and Royal Caribbean's private island of CocoCay.
