Thuringia conquers America: Voigt secures millions in investments!
Prime Minister Mario Voigt (CDU) and Economics Minister Colette Boss-John (CDU) lead a 75-member delegation on a groundbreaking trip to the USA. The delegation trip, which began on Sunday, aims to strengthen economic relations between Thuringia and the USA. The United States represents the most important foreign trade market for Thuringian companies. Voigt emphasizes the importance of the USA as an important non-European partner in economic, scientific and strategic terms. This trip marks the first delegation trip of the new state government.
Voigt traveled to the USA with three clearly defined goals in mind: First, he wanted to attract investors to Thuringia, secure existing business relationships and finally make the Free State better known internationally. The Prime Minister sees his goals as having been achieved. A regular investor from Washington has already planned to travel to Thuringia this year. However, details about the exact investments remain unclear, but the investor has an impressive investment volume of seven billion US dollars.
Strengthen economic relations
The delegation met around 50 companies from the region in Boston to present Thuringia's location advantages. These companies are showing interest in expanding to Europe or Germany. The State Development Corporation (LEG) will open a new foreign office in New York, which is scheduled to begin operations in October. Andreas Krey, Managing Director of LEG, emphasizes the need for support of the medium-sized companies traveling with them and announces the hiring of an employee who will act as a liaison person between Thuringia and the USA. This office should not only maintain existing business relationships, but also be used for market research.
Overall, the trip describes a promising initiative to rediscover and strengthen the economic connections between Thuringia and the USA. The hope is that the opening of the new office in New York will generate additional impulses for the Thuringian economy and make the region better known on the international market.
