Thuringia: Overnight stays are falling slightly - trend sign or alarm?

In the first half of 2023, Thuringia recorded a total of 4.6 million overnight stays, which corresponds to a slight decrease of 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. The number of guests was also 1.1 percent lower at 1.8 million. The general development in the German accommodation industry is stagnating, and Thuringia is no exception. While the cities of Erfurt and Eichsfeld recorded positive numbers of overnight stays, all other travel areas in Thuringia showed declines. The current overnight stay figures were published by the Thuringian State Office for Statistics and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). These figures are initially provisional as not all data were available in time.
